True story mate. I lost everything. My kids still don't speak to me. This reminds me of when I told scouser that my Taylor made Burner driver was banned in Australia.
Id just hit a drive, and it made a big spark. He said did you see the size of the sprark then. I said yes, thats why the're called a burner driver, and the're banned in Australia as they led to a spate of bush fires.

I assume by illegal you mean it is non-conforming with the rules of golf. There's a lot of Sumo drivers though so you can check here http://www.randa.org/RulesEquipment/Equipment/Equipment-Explorer
They aren't illegal like drugs, just can't be used in a golf competition and if you do so you risk Max 4 shot penalty (if you aven't used it) or disqualification if you use it.
If it's a friendly knock with mates you are fine to take it if they aren't going to make a fuss about the fact it is non-conforming.

I'm assuming what the op is referring to is not a club non-conforming to the rules, but rather a fake. In which case it could theoretically be collected by customs, because it is illegal to import faked goods into most countries. But I never heard of anyone having their fake Rolex, Gucci-Bag etc. conficscated if it was bought for private use, they only do that when containers full of that stuff is brought into the country to be sold there, so I think as long as you don't fill your shaft and driverhead with heroine, you should be fine to cross any border with it whatsoever.
