Supermarket Home Deliveries

One of the very few benefits of being not 100% healthy, I get my shopping slot no problem at all! I am on immunosuppressants though if anyone wants to swap, I wouldn't mind queueing up with the rest of the muggles.

Morrisons is your friend as I found out. Sign up for the delivery pass and you get priority booking after the ones on the vulnerable list.

The concern I have with Morrisons is that last time they totally messed up our order. Less than half of what we ordered. Including some items we had deleted off it and some items we hadn't ordered at all. It was at the start of lockdown and I don't think their system could handle it.
 
How has this happened, I get that the population is way bigger there but so are the number of food stores. Home delivery is barely even a thing here and there’s only queues here following a payday, the rest of the month is just normal (actually its much quieter) No serious shortages either and a ‘proper’ lockdown to boot

What went wrong over there?

What a shame. I've not had anything like that at all since I've started up my delivery pass again. Think I've had some gnocchi that they couldn't deliver and a couple of subs but they were ok.

Demand for home deliveries just went through the roof I guess. We also had the idiotic panic buying as well don't forget. An example. I had my usual delivery slot booked. The driver told me he had delivered 11 crates of shopping to an old lady. Now she might have been shopping for others as well but he couldn't believe how much food she'd ordered. Also, the vans only have a capacity of 80 crates so they were doing fewer deliveries as people were buying more in one go.

Yeah I guess though it still seems weird. Some are still going food shopping almost daily, others still bulk buying, still more getting home del instead of queuing, many folks need a home del, slots are rare is areas of the country. Everybody’s buying almost anything they want online. And all happening when there’s zero restrictions on going out for food… Something’s gone more than a bit wrong if chunks of the population can’t get supplies of food without undue delay in a developed country like the UK after 7 weeks of restrictions
 
The two big ones near me are still no slots available for next 3 weeks both for click n collect and home delivery. Been pretty much this way from the start. I have managed one click n collect from each, possibly being lucky with someone else cancelling.
 
Just to add a few points, not sure what the others are doing, but Tesco is limiting you to 80 items as a maximum. It makes sense to have the vans optimized for as many deliveries as possible, but when you order 6 banana's by qty, that's 6 items!! so with a family of 6, you need to be savvy!

The last delivery guy was very good too, he phoned me from outside to discuss any substitutions and missing items, then unloaded the lot to my doorstep and then knocked the door to say he was done. By the time I opened the door he was gone!

Isn’t that how all deliveries are done to the Rooter house. Nothing to do with Coronavirus !
