Planning to meet up with a pal for a winter knock, partly a chin wag opportunity so not pushing for anything top draw, but somewhere solid and coping well with the recent wet weather, so preferably no temp greens. Midweek in the £25 - £35 bracket would be nice.

I'd be travelling from Oxford direction (M40) and and being a taxi from Heathrow airport later, my pal lives 10ish mile south of Heathrow. Idea is for me to do the bulk of the travelling as he has come the other way last few times, but accept he would have to travel a bit to find something.

What can the good folk of the forum suggest please?

Sticking your criteria into a map gives a myriad of choices. Do you have some dates in mind?

I would go for a heathland course, bearing in mind the amount of rain we have had. You may need to up your budget though to get one of the better Surrey ones.

Sonning is supposedly heathland and reasonably priced on TeeoffTimes.

Not played it myself, but had planned to (and even paid!) on the day my internet upgrade was also scheduled!

Certainly sensible advise to go for good draining though - which probably eliminates most inside the M25 in that area!

Yes, could be an option, thanks.

For questions: Tomorrow (nothing like planning ahead!). I am collecting some family from Heathrow in evening and bringing back to Oxfordshire.

Any views on Hazlemere?

Best to check where you play in advance, as I know at my course you can only play with a member up to the New Year.

Not the best of choices when wet, very up and down hills with a lot of the greens at the bases of the hills, fairways can get a bit slippy too, theres definitely better choices for the time of year imo

Would have been good Smiffy, actually saw your recommendation on Tyrrells on an older thread and already called them. They are a choc a block, as it seems are most places. Guess the mild weather has brought extra people out.
So needed to make some compromises. Booked for Kingswood. Expecting it to be a tad squelchy and they have 1 temp. But wanted to have something banked as need to leave soon
