Guys and girls,

A pal of mine will be travelling back from St Andrews and stopping overnight in Carlisle. He is looking for a good track to play on the Saturday, budget is £100. So far we have come up with Southerness, Ganton, Notts, Lindrick, Sherwood, Beau and possibly some of the Southport links. Also looked at some of the McKenzie courses around Leeds.

He has already played Silloth so looking for somewhere new.

Any suggestions please??

Hillside. It's worth every penny.

Only course I have played up there is Carlisle. My cousin is a member so could probably arrange a game.

Rich, this is for Andy so you can discuss with him tomorrow

Yeah ganton is top notch bit criss crossy down the country from St andrews to carlise to scarborough though?

Southport area has got to be favourite blow about Hillside!

It is but was mentioned in OP that's all. I would say Formby in Southport could be best bet.

Guess the OP not bothered as similar with Leeds and Notts courses.

You were at Ganton recently? Did you think there was a lack of consistency with the sand in the bunkers and some unkempt?

Southerness is worth a shout, less than 90 mins to Carlisle and would be much more highly rated if it was not so out on a limb. Playing there Sunday and game is not in good shape so could be messy!

Is Bondhay, near Worksop, in the vicinity? If so, I loved that course when I played it a couple of years ago. Worksop, I wasn't so bothered about.

Southerness, silloth, ganton, west lancs, delemere forest, sandiway, mere.
Loads of choice for top quality courses and then you mention notts and below!

It is near Worksop yes, Course is superbly kept but boy is it tough. One of the toughest I have ever played, more sand than Blackpool beach water hazards everywhere and super fast greens. Throw in long carries to reach the fairway and miss the fairway by just a few feet you are in the trees. Well worth a visit just to see what you go round in.

We play bonday in our society,(Probably 40 mins from home)played it twice recently ,it is in good nick, though the clubhouse and diving range are tired to say the least.
We are told the story with the bunkers , and there are lots,( 170 was mentioned) was that that the owner would watch golfers, and put the bunkers where most people were hitting the most.
£20 each mid week if you can get there . bargain.

It was last year when I last played it. The driving range has always been poor ever since I have been going. Not sure about the clubhouse when I went it seemed o.k if I remember correctly. The 18th is a brute isn't it must be 5 water hazards on that hole all which are in play. If you can play to your handicap then you have had a superb round
