Sub 5 instruction

I heard a good tip once (may have been on here) which has helped me with the mental side... Stop looking
at it as two 9's, but break it down into six 3's.... ie look three holes ahead all the time and think right
I want to get through the next three holes -1 for example. If you dont, wipe the slate clean and concentrate on the next 3 holes.

I was a bugger for thinking "oh that was a crap front nine, lets make the back nine better"..... by then its generally too late.

Like you I was off 5 for about 10 years and tended to just cruise along season by season. I 'm almost down to 2 in the space of two years and reckon I would be lower if it wasnt for the bad weather we have had up here this spring/summer.

I looked at my game and saw where my bad shots were all coming from, shots that scared me and shots that wrecked my card. For me, it was a hook, it took a long hard winter and an entire grip/swing change but now i've eliminated the entire left side of the course.

Won't work for everyone but thats how I got down.

Sounds like excellent advice

Do you tell your driving pupils this too?

Er...No.
Generally the people I teach are complete beginners. As a result they will continue to improve for many a year.
Someone who has got down to a 5 handicap in Golf will almost certainly have been playing for a number of years and may well have got as far as they can in the game.
I don't see that as an unreasonable statement....

I really don't see why anyone can't improve.

If you don't have the time to put into certain parts of the game, fitness, course management and having the correct attitude then I'm not sure what you can expect.

On the lesson front I've never been a big fan. I'm always interested in getting views and opinions on my swing and often record it myself (I really don't see it as being that important). I may have a funny swing to some but I'm a lot closer to owning it than most.
