Sub 3 hour rounds

you would do!

its all poppycock, at the end of the day as long as you keep up with the group in front then the group behind can foxtrot oscar, they aint gaining nowt.

now, can we change the record for a nice smoochy number please

No no no. What if the game in front are going slow do you just accept this. Again this is where I feel we go wrong. So many people accept that they have kept pace with the game ahead of them and don't realise that the game two in front has a 3 hole gap on the rest of the course.

This attitude is wrong.

We all need to be more aware of our position on the course.

slow groups of golfers should be reported, warned then suspended if they do not speed up. 5 mins is the ball search time. no need for it

What planet are you from???????????????????????

So you are out in the monthly medal and you have a couple of high handicappers in the same group having a nightmare. What happens now? You all get warned then you get suspended, that really sounds like a good idea. I would be really impressed if I got in trouble for someone else being slow. There is another thread regarding the decline in golf club membership, do you think things like this is going to encourage people to take up the game?

I'll play in the roll up tomorrow. 4 balls all the way on a Saturday morning and it will be 4 hours give or take 5-10 minutes either way. Will that be slow. For many clearly it'll be a living nightmare but most weeks it moves at a decent pace with only a few waits here and there. It won't feel like I've been out forever and concentration and fatigue won't be an issue. In competitions (three balls) we are usually round in 3 3/4 - 4 hours and thats playing medal. Can't seem the fascination in rushing around. It is my leisure time and I'm happy to enjoy it. Agreed that anything from 4.5-5 hours can be too long but it depends on what course you are playing, the type of event and the weather. No fun in the pouring rain or howling gale.

I put my clubs in the right place, am ready to play (even with a pre-shot routine) and my green read via Aimpoint I bet is quicker than many. I don't think I'm slow but I don't have any hang up to be round as quickly as possible

I cant see 2 or 3 groups in front Craw, I, unfortunately, do not possess xray vision or any other super human power. If I notice a massive gap then of course we would push through but on my course there are not many opportunities to do so

If a group is persistently slow then yes they should be penalised, fined, jailed and if they still don't speed up, executed. We have a 4ball at my club that play early on a Saturday morning and they are notoriously slow. Several people have spoken to them but still they carry on regardless. If I had my way, they wouldn't be allowed to play until after 4pm on a Saturday.

I popped up to the club this evening, had the course to myself and played 9 holes in 54 minutes. 6 pars and 3 birdies, so it is possible to play decent golf quickly and enjoy yourself :ears:

Played a fourball matchplay tonight round in just under 4hrs played full 18, but we let two 2 balls thru as the course was empty behind them even though i wouldn't say we were holding them up it just made sense as the course was empty behind them. It was matchplay so everything wasn't putted out but it was tight all the way so not a lot of picking up. But this said if it was a medal round it would be the norm for 4hr round for a three ball.I THINK THE TOUR PRO'S HAVE A LOT TO ANSWER FOR the youngsters of today watching them now 6hrs will be the norm within 20 yrs lol.

medal is a different kettle of fish, im talking about general play not comps

oh and maybe if it did not take nearly 5 hours due to slow players maybe the membership would not decline dont you think

4hr 45 today for a two ball. We were behind a society with at least 25 groups of fourballs. We were always waiting. No-one was chivvying them along, and no one had told me, when I booked that we were first group after a big society. If so, I'd have gone elsewhere.

To be honest I have noticed that 5 hour rounds are more of a problem at corporate courses and pay and play, rather than members courses due to all the people just having a knock.

I just think that by penalising people for slow play by banning them is ridiculous. So you are going to differentiate between medal and friendly knock rounds. So when I am stood on the 1st tee in my usual 3-ball am I going to inclined to let a beginner join us, due to the fear of him holding me up and getting me warning for his slow play. So all these people that are new to the game are going to struggle to get a game, so they leave the club and tell other people in the area that the members at that club are a bunch of.....................! Is that really going to help your membership levels?

By the way i do actually let new members and beginners join me, that is how I have made a really good friend and he is down at 12 now from 25 when I met him 18 months ago.

I'd love to know just who exactly is going to be monitoring all the groups on the course, 7 days a week, and giving out warnings. I can see plenty volunteers for that little job.

utter twaddle. your course must be one of those with hidden fairways. I can easily see whats infront of me and behind me at parts on my course. and if I cant I can assume that theres at least 40 folk in front of me and another 40 behind me

Well I'm a 100% weekend Warrior then as I work 8am-7pm Monday to Friday unless I'm working weekend and manage to wangle a lieu day in the week. So by this I'm also a hacker in bombers eyes! Genius.

I actually like the term Weekend Warrior though in my day that's what full time soldiers call the TA!
