For the first time in my life, I scored sub 100 on a local Par 72 course.

Now, I know it's not brilliant but I think my score of 98 was good considering the conditions we were playing in.

We played at Dunton Hills GC. A friend and I trudged round the boggy course. The wind was down and there was no rain, but the ground conditions were simply awful. The greens had hardly any grass on them at all, plugged balls and sand traps filled with water. Happy days :)

On a separate note, I'm in love with my hybrid. I was using it off the tee and off the fairway when I could and as I went round the course my confidence with using it grew. I was trying to implement my new swing as much as I could and ended up hitting it further than my friend's driver efforts.

Shot of the day was hitting the flag from the tee on the 7th, a 183 yard par 3.

Had the conditions been half decent, I reckon I could have shaved at least 6 shots off of my score. Perhaps more. The putting really ruined my card that day.

Anyway, a good day was had by the pair of us :) Burger and chips and a pint at the 19th afterwards rounded the day up nicely.

Congratulations, always great when you beat a big milestone like 100 or 90 for the first time. I've still not broken 80 yet on any course and I'm nowhere near doing so at the moment, need to play at my old course as that was par 69 ;)

Thanks. If I were to go around there again in better conditions I could get close to 90. I made some really silly mistakes when I rushed a shot or two, namely small chips onto the green and not trusting the clubs. You live and learn. There were some holes which I would play differently too. Laying up in front of ditches rather than going for them and losing a ball :(

Well done, I still have my ball from when I first broke 100 with 99 written on it. I also have the ball I broke 90 with 89 on it.

.................................................... I'm still waiting to add the 79 ball.

Good shooting, but dont over analyse the shots that you left out there, mid to high handicappers always look back, ( in Fact every player i know) looks back at their round and rues the shots that they left out there, just enjoy the moment.

Oh I won't. I really enjoyed the day despite the conditions and I'm reminiscing about the good shots. I was frustrated at the time with the bad ones but hey, that's golf.

Great to get that monkey off your back and think what you can do when the conditions get better.

Indeed. I'm looking forward to the next round already which is a society day in two week's time. :)
