Stroke savers for the pro.

Having read this article with interest I now feel even less guilty for using DMD's. The info they get on those is unreal compared to the standard stroke savers. I admit, that level of detail would be wasted in my hands but I always feel a little happier knowing that, thanks to DMD's, I probably chose the correct club and visualised the correct shot even if I do proceed to duff it 20 yards.

I have to agree totally. I used an app on my phone tonight for the first time and even without it being the pro version it helped me alot with club selection. Going pro on it tomorrow and I've updated my home course as it was about 12 years out of date!!!!
Also playing away on Thursday night so should help on a new course too. I'll report back after the round.

stroke saver!/ there are certaintly a bit different to the ones you buy in the pro shop, more like an encyclopedia, means once theyve done there home work they will know the direction of breaks and kicks from the fairways let alone the greens as fascinating insight and being a saddo i would quite like to have one to browse through

Don't know about the "normal" tours but on the Seniors tour there is a guy that walks and detail maps the courses (drawings/shadings, yardages, hazards etc) and then prints them off and sells them to the players for around £20 at the venue. Been on the bag for my father-in-law at a few Seniors events and the same guys is there at them all. Most of the players buy form him due to the amount of detail he puts in to them.

Omagh. Funnily enough not yet mapped for my GPS but I play in 2 societies and find DMD much handier on strange courses and am really looking forward to more rounds with the Shotmiser. Used it at Newtown last weekend and although it didn't help me score well (26 points) one of the guys in my 4 ball said it really helped him to score his 41points! Told him it was a free sample and in future would be 20p a time.

think im playing newton stewart with my mates work society on friday. havn played there since 09. looking forward to it. have happy memories of the place as i won my work society there as it was the last course to be played. i was 4 up going into the final day. played rubbish and thought id blown it only to win by a point! yay

Last year I was lucky enough to win one of the pro Strokesavers for RSG on this forum. It is an amazing little book, every contour mapped with distances from virtually every hump and hollow as well as the fronts and backs of bunkers etc. The detailed countour maps of the greens are brilliant. No need to ever let the greens make a fool of you (ha ha )

However I actually prefer the simpler Royal Lytham one that came as a freebie with this month's mag. I just prefer to see the hole and contours illustrated in a more natural way. It gives me a better feel for the hole as an armchair spectator than all the contour lines. As a aid to getting round the course though the RSG one would no doubt be far more helpful.

Pro one is the one I prefer - though the spots, crosses etc have gone.

Two groups do it on Euro Tour and 1 on the Seniors. Not sure what happens on ELPGA.

Has (correct!) distances to front of green from front and back of all bunkers and from sprinkler heads. Also has amount to allow for slope indicated too - which really helps. Had one from The Senior's Open at Walton Heath too, but a member mate wanted it (so I got the tenner it cost me back).
