Every year there is an English couple who come over and stay in Rangiora and play an active part in our club's activities and generally organise a competition, usually "Pick a pom " where the locals pick a pom to play in a 4BBB.

This year they came up with the String game, have heard of it before from HID.

Certainly was going to take our minds of the weeks events !!

Anways it was a foot for every shot of your handicap so therefore 8 foot for me. Every time you needed to/want to use a piece of string to save you a shot you did, ie putt, out of a divot, poor lie in rough, even bring back in from OB , etc etc ,you could so long as you had enough string.
Winner was the one with less strokes and I managed to whack it round in 73 with 6 uses of the string for 6 putts.

Well chuffed and nice bit of crystal in the cabinet :) :)

we've played a string game at one of our society days (serious comp in the morning, something different in the afternoon).

much the same, a foot/handicap shot but everytime you use it you have to cut off how much you used (so if 3 foot OB, you'll need 3 foot plus a bit to get back in), and you don't get credit for having any left over.

tbh I thought it there was too much faffing about, looking for scissors/knife etc.

How are things over there Upsidedown?

Pretty crap to be honest for the folks of Christchurch.

It's been split into 3 zones really , those in the West who've minimal damage if any, the CBD which has been totalled and the eastern suburbs where there is still no power, no water and not even portaloos in places.
In the Eastern parts the roads are badly done in so lots and lots of work todo.

But having said that it amazes me how stoic the people are here, they just get on with it. Roads that back in the UK would be closed whilst they're repaired are still open here and you just drive around the pothole/upraised sewer cover/large mound of silt with a guy and a stop go sign !!

Living and working in Folkestone which suffered earthquakes in recent times, I can only say how much we wish you well.

Homer entered one of these at Ascot and was found swinging by his neck from a tree branch somewhere down the left hand side of the 4th fairway
