Straight to the tee vs decent warm-up? Your thoughts...

Have a 5 min warm up, purely to "relax" my back, then go straight to the tee, I am pretty crap so I can not say if this is helps or hinders my game:o

Our practice facilities don't really permit much warming up. The short course doesn't open until 9.30 so can't use that. Not allowed to chip onto the putting green so can't do that. The nets have holes big enoigh to crawl through so can't use those.
So its a few putts on the putting green and away.

To be honest, I'm not sure I'd even do a full warm-up if we had the facilities. I sometimes did at my last club and to be honest I don't think it made any difference.

I always warm up at my own course. I have a set routine and never worry too much about the odd bad one. Its not a practice session so I've finally learned not to get hung up on swing thought but to just try and find a smooth tempo. A few chips, few bunker shots and finish with some putts. Even if I carve the first one left into the pond or OB right I always stand on the first tee feeling I'm ready to swing irrespective of the outcome.

I used to spend ages warming up but I found it wasn't actually benefitting me that much. Now I hit half a dozen shots in the nets and do some chipping and that's me ready to play.

The problem I have with too much practicing is that I start thinking too much.

In bigger competitions will do an hour on practice field and half hour on putting green (including chip and run shots).
In our monthly medals/stablefords will just hit a dozen or so balls in the net and have 5 mins on putting green.
In social golf will just have a dozen or so practice putts.
This week am putting in the extra practice for a bigger comp next week (Volvo matchplay national finals) trying to do 1 1/2 hrs practice a day
No real pattern on my practice routine (although many would say this is 'warm up' play rather than practice. Just depends on the competion ahead

I prefer to have a decent warm up before a comp round....normally half a basket of balls on the range, a bit of chipping & pitching followed by some putting. Makes me feel a little more relaxed on the first tee. Saying that, played last Friday afternoon. Out of the car, straight to the tee, a few practice swings.....and I equalled my pb. So I don't believe it really matters, as long as you feel relaxed and ready when you take that first swing! :)

I always turn up on the tee, do some basic stretches, swing a 7 iron a couple of times, and then tee it up and hit whatever club is required.

I find it no help (currently) to warm up in the nets, on the range, etc. However, if on an "away" course, I'll have a couple of putts on the putting green.

Never warm up. 5 minutes putting then to the 1st tee. A couple of swishes then get on with it.

I have hit tens of thousands of golf balls in my life I would think and I know what to do by now. Hitting 10 more on the practice range before playing would not make the blindest bit of difference to me.

I don’t usually do any warm up except 10 mins putting and onto the first tee and a few swishes with the driver.

I used to go and hit balls on the practice ground or a net at away courses, but walking onto the first tee after you have sh*nked a bucked of balls is not the best start for a round.

Best round I ever played was without practice, a warm up and if im honest still a bit drunk from a birthday party the night before. I was playing of 11 at the time and shot 72 on a par 68 course playing the front 9 in 4 over ( 4 three puts ) and the back nine in level.

I get free range balls so normally get a bucket, hit a couple of balls with each club - try and mix up drawing/fading etc. Most of the time to do not achieve it exactly but gives me a feel for how im striking the ball that day and a bit of control. then take the rest of the busket to short game area and hit 2 or 3 with each wedge. Its not practice, I dont care if I shank them all or hit them crisply its just a warm up and get loose. I
then grab a coffee and take 5-10 mins putting on the walk to the first then off we go. I'm sure it wouldnt make much difference if I didnt do this, however like a lot of things in golf routine tends to be quite important and my pro says this is a good way of encouraging it.

Depends on time.

All rounds I'll at least hit a couple of chips and putts to get the speed of the greens.

Competitive rounds I'll usually try to hit 25 on the range, then have a chip and putt.

Non-Competitive I'll try and do the same if time permits. If not Chip, Putt. Walk up to the 1st tee and then smack my driver way right :)

Note to self, don't go on the practice ground before a comp.

Having posted this in the week what do I do today before the monthly s'ford - I go on the damn practice ground and promptly score 2 points in the first 4 holes losing 3 balls and 3 putting twice in the process - muppet  Ended up with 32 points so it wasn't a disaster and actually played really well until I doubled the 18th but that is the last time I ever practice before a comp.

depends if its just a nock or a comp

nock i just turn up few practice swings and im away
a comp i go to the practice field around 50mins before teeing off hit a few 7 irons or wedges

I like to warm up in the garden an hour or two before playing. It seems to work for me, I just loosen up, do a few drills, practice some swing stuff in the mirror of the patio doors, plenty of turning/bending/stretching.

I like to hit a dozen in the net, then putt, then play. The more I hit (like at a range or something) the worse I seem to play.

In fairness the writing was on the wall. Some of the warm up shots gave you a big clue today might not go to plan. Heck I even queried what you were doing when I saw you in the locker room with a basket of balls. I'm definitely knocking the warm up on the head for the Saturday roll up especially as it won't be light enough soon. I still think its good to hit a few balls before a comp though.

medal times are usually early, so at most a couple of putts. no nets close by anyway. other games it just depends on how early I get there, what else is going on. anyway in my case any 'practice' is only to get the joints back in their right place

I dont do warming up...couple of putts at most never found the range a very exciting place to be in fact get quite bored hitting balls down a bland field...For me swoosh swoosh and a wee bit of practise of the part of the game that will save my score, and off.

If I don't warm up before the round, I spend the first 3 holes warming up and the remaining 15 trying to make up for the shots I threw away on the first 3. We are fortunate to have a small par 3 course as well as the main course, so I try and play 3 or 4 of the holes on that to loosen up and get my head sorted for distances, before going to the putting green for 10 minutes.
