Spent the afternoon at Dalmahoy taking in the action at the Scottish Seniors Open. It was a good afternoon to watch and see how these guys coped with a strong breeze and a course which was playing its full length after a very wet summer.
The biggest surprise was that Sam Torrance was (or rather his caddy was) carrying a tour size bag with the K1 and F.A.S.T. logos and names plastered over it. Amazingly enough the clubs within the bag bore no resemblance to the aforementioned clubs, looked a bit like TM actually!
Anyway, it was good to see the likes of Des Smyth, Constantino Rocca, Peter Mitchell playing well and making the game look easy. Jerry Brunner, an American, made a great birdie on the 8th with a suberb chip in from a hanging lie and a steep downhill run to the flag. He played the most gentle of chips and got his just reward. Domingo Hospital was firing them in close and he to was having a good day.
Unlike the normal tour events, there was plenty of room to see these guys up close. No overzealous marshals, yes there were ropes up at certain points but on the whole we were right up against the action. Close enough to see Eamon Darcy does indeed have a UNIQUE swing!
So if you get the chance to see these guys here or at some other event, go and see them, they are still knocking the ball way out there and their short games are amazing. It's also very easy to watch them on the practice green to see how they practise their routines etc.
Thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon at Dalmahoy, hope that tommorrow is another good day for these guys. May the best old man win !
