staying loose at the top

I have a tendancy to stiffen up just before the downswing when not playing so well. This robs me of length especially with the big dog. When I'm swinging well and loose, I get a better plane and better contact throughout the bag. I try to tell myself to let the swing flow but has anyone any tips to help it happen?

You could be holding your breath during address/swing try taking a deep breath through the nose and out the mouth before you swing
