I used a stats program called Golf shot which had the usual stats like fairways hit, GIR ,%up and downs putts per round, putts per hole gir etc, etc.
I have recorded over 200 rounds with this system.
No matter how hard I practised or how much I spent on lessons and equipment my handicap was stuck at 9. Last year I used a stats system from playingpargolf.com and not only did I reduced my handicap to 6 but won 3 open comps and came second twice.(bought the new 915 with the prize money) The program tells you how effective you hit each shot and groups them as shot types so you can work on the shot types that are hurting your score the most. I always thought my driving was costing me the most shots but it turns out that my driving is the strongest part of my game. For me it was my approach shots and tee shots on par 3's. So most of my practise this winter was spent on this area. Yesterday played in a comp and finished 3rd with 35 putts so although my iron play is improving I am not getting close enough to the hole to make the first putt but at least I know what to work on and more importantly I am seeing improvements.
Can't wait for the season to start

Welcome to shots gained stats.
i just read a book before Xmas called every shot counts and it's changed the way I look at stats. I've joined Golf Data Lab which gives more in depth of stats which needs more info and that's hard when trying to play and record every yardage and footage of putts. i will checkout your stats system, but hope you continue to improve.

That sounds good but after every shot do you have to input something. I presume it works off the gps on your phone and records every shot to find out we're the issues are. Something I may need to look into :). Made up for it helping you lower your handicap and help with the improvements of your game.

Interesting. How much is the monthly subsciption to this website?

Yip looked at golf data lab. What I want to do is play golf not spend hours logging and recording stats stats . All I do is record the type of shot, the club used and the outcome for each shot tee to green. On the green all I need is the distance of the first putt and the number of putts each hole . At first it could me about 30 mins to add my score now it's about 10 mins

Sounds good then as long as you don't duff every shot 5ft :) I better get out of that habit then before I invest 😄. Thanks for the info

Thanks raintown, think I will invest in that looks really good. Just scared it will tell me to give as I'm rubbish 😃. Once I get back playing I'm going to get it. Will keep you posted on results. Thanks again mate.

I would eat spam all day if it helped lower my score. Call it what you want but this spam works for me. From 9 to 6 is not bad for 1 season but I suppose it will not work for everyone

Welcome to the partly sceptic world of this forum........

What you mean a first time poster starting a thread about a stats program with subscription that has worked wonders with their handicap......yep, maybe I am a little sceptical......

The site did nothing for my handicap.
I did all the work all it did was tell me what to work on.
As a senior I have lost a bit of distance so wanted something that would keep me as a single handicap player for a bit longer can't believe I'm down to 6 it has been 40 years since I was that low . Now I don't even think about how far I hit it just about how much the shot cost me.
