Has anyone changed from standard to midsize grips just out of choice rather than Pro telling them they need to..... Im curios as to how much of an effect they would have....... I wear a ML glove as i like them tightish on my hands even though a large may be better... Its when they get a bit worn that the large tend to get a little loose.....

Iv held some peoples clubs with Midsize grips and they feel nice...... Hand measurements are kind of standard i suppose with 7 and 3/4's wrist to longest finger.... And Longest finger being 3.5 inchs.....

Iv only ever had standard grips but mine are now due for a change so im swaying towards the midsize.....
If i was to grip 2 or 3 just to see... Which ones would be the best to make a judgement on?.....

In my uneducated opinion, going from standard (black) to larger (gold) Ping grips meant that the clubs felt more comfy in the hands.

That's all.

Your hands are a similar size to mine kid. The Lamkin chart has you as a standard grip with 3 extra layers (4 layers including grip tape) on a Lamkin .58 core grip.

If you were to use a Golf Pride New decade MC which have a .60 core you'd need 5 layers total to get the equivalent size.

Either way, neither of those built up standard grips is anywhere near a midsize.

If it's a comfort thing, I'd demo one on a 6 iron and see how you go. Gotta be better than re gripping a full set to find out you don't like them

Don't forget that your layers will depend on the size of the shaft underneath; a New Decade .600 core on a .600 diameter shaft will only need the same 3 layers as the Lamkin .580 will on a .580 shaft if the outside diameters are the same. If the Lamkin .580 core is over a .600 diameter shaft it may not require any extra layers.

I was talked into having a mid-size grip put onto a Mizuno hi-fli 2 iron. It felt like a cricket bat. I don't have particularly small hands, quite the opposite I would say. It just didn't feel right at all.

Easiest thing to do just try before you buy.

I made the change about a year ago and had mid size on all my clubs. It does feel more comfortable and takes the hands out of the swing a bit. I also wear M/L in gloves. It didn't take long to get used to them and now when I hit std size grips they feel so skinny.

Shafts are S300's Pal.... I think they are .600 diameter..... So would that mean a grip with a .600 core would be the better fit?

Very true

Re: .58 on a .60 shaft.

As a general rule in the above scenario, with a .58 grip having more material in its construction it will sit at 1/64 oversize on that shaft (.60) which is, roughly, equivalent to a thick layer of masking tape.

It'll never be an exact science unless you know the thickness of the build up tape you use and I can't say I've taken I that far....... Yet

S300's are .60 diameter shafts.

Personally, I prefer a .58 grip as there is more material in their construction they don't feel as thin.

Blimey I don't even know what size my grips or gloves are etc !

ALso a ML glove size and made the same change earlier in the year.

As a reference, the Lamkin site predicted my measurements as STD +++ - which is standard with 3 extra layers.

I got fitted locally in the end and got measured for Midsize +1 layer. I went from Gold Pride (tapered)-> Lamkin (no tapered) also so the change was very evident on my right hand.

Took a while to get used to, but the club definetely sits better. When I try a standard grip now, it feels very thin.

Sharpro mid size grips installed on the TP18s .... Thanks to the forum I got the confidence up to do this little job, and it was extremely easy, took me in all about 30 minutes to do all of them.
I use a mid size as std, but I was advised to try it first on an iron and see how I got on. The argument for doing so, is that the whole hand is in contact and thus your grip is lighter allowing the muscles in your forearms to be relaxed. The relaxed forearm muscles increase your distance.

As per another thread, I use a ML glove, but I have my clubs fitted with midsize grips. Going from a normal grip with two extra wraps of tape to a midsize was chalk and cheese, the difference it made for me was superb.

With the smaller grip I felt like I had to squeeze the grip to get any feeling, which was hindering my swing, but with the midsize, I could relax my grip and still feel the club, which has made a huge difference.
