I couple of weeks or so ago I posted a message looking for anyone in the Midlands who might be able to take me out for a round as I've just moved here from South Wales.
I had a good response, and several people have kindly offered to take me out, including Mark (Bigfoot). We managed to get out on the course yesterday, and I had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
We played at Mark's course Wharton Park, which although it was a bit of a drive from Brum, was well worth the journey.
I was invited to make up a four with his regular partners, and we teed off at 8.30, and it felt like we were the only ones on the course.
Mark and his friends were friendly, and great company - and they made me feel welcome from the off. I played pretty well (+4 out, before the wheels came off slightly to end with +14), and I put that down to not feeling at all like an outsider.
The course itself was lovely, with some stunning "signature" holes, and at £14 was an absolute bargain.
Moral of the story, I suppose, is that everyone is on here for a reason - a love of golf, and if anyone has any doubts about getting involved and meeting up and playing with others - don't! I was introduced to Celtic Manor by Phil (the_squire), and I've bought clubs off two others on here. And I would argue I get more value from the forum (even though I don't contribute regularly) than from the magazine.
I have also had offers to play up here from Si (MizunoGreyhound - my fault we haven't been out yet - he's been very tolerant of my unreliable communication) and Gazp, and I hope I can have an outing with them that was enjoyable as yesterday's.
