Just wondering what you prefer in your shoes? I use spikes if I can get away with them as I think they give better traction. I cannot see the point of plastic cleats, they are no better than the bobbles on the soles of most shoes and just sit on the surface of the grass and wear down in no time. Unless I am told otherwise it's spikes all the way for me.

Both!
I've got Pro-Stingers in. A spike surrounded by a cleat.
I'll go back to cleats for the summer but every winter now I'll put the Stingers in. Great grip.

Three pairs of AQL's.
Black ones fitted with Pro-Stingers for winter use so I don't slip A over T and they clean up very easily.
Two white pairs for Summer use fitted with cleats. If the fairways are reasonably dry I am more than happy to wear them.

I MUCH prefer metal spikes tbh, I just dont see why we need the Soft Spikes etc etc.
Ok, for the very odd time that some careless eejit catches them across the green, but in every other respect, real Spikes seem far superior to me.
Surely they also help in aerating the green in a minute fashion too ?

And in the Winter, Soft Spikes are just a pain the @rse, always clogged up, and frequently to the point of being of no use whatsever, even a Pitch mark repaires struggles to clean them on the course, let alone the high pressure hose afterwards.

Like you say, if the course allows, Metal Spikes for me.

Spikes in winter for extra grip and cleats in summer when fairways are solid for extra comfort.

I have pro stinger in most of my shoes but do change to cleats in the summer as I find it slightly more comfortable especially on a very dry and hard course. I do think in the wet spikes give a much more solid base and don't get clogged up with rubbish as you walk

I wear soft spikes all year round and have done for around 6 years. Can't remember what they are called but the are black and yellow !!

I don't slip in the wet but metal spikes do leave more damage. Everyone at our place wear soft spikes and if just one person wears metal and you follow them later in the day, you know that someone has had metal spikes on. You can see all the spike marks.
Putts don't roll so well over them!

I'd love spikes - I grew up with them so they feel right.

Having said that, I also grew up with persimmon woods, blades, penfold commandos and Petron Impalas so perhaps it's better to move with the times........ :o

I have soft spikes and whilst they have never let me down traction wise, I did start to get annoyed with the amount of crap they hold. Ok so it takes a couple minutes to blast it off with air but I was considering trying spikes. Maybe next winter now!
