Not sure I should be posting on this after being pictured (allegedly) standing on Homers line at Camberley but hey.

They played a TP Tour event at our place yesterday and we teed off approximately 2 hours after the last group.

I know the commonly held belief is that they disappear very quickly and so as long as you dont tread on a line in the few moments immediately before a putt it shouldnt matter but just about every green was visibly very heavily marked with spikes.

Would this have been down to pure weight of traffic - ie caddies as well as players, more walking around checking putts or do they tend to stay more in the very humid conditions we had yesterday?

I don't know the technical answer but all the caddies I have ever seen wear trainers and not golf shoes

Maybe there was a greater number of metal spikes on show rather than the soft cleats most club golfers use?

Is it not perfectly acceptable to do a jig on homers line? :) :)

as a previous post said most pros use a long metal spiked shoe and more evident on the greens than the cleats we use plus with the wet weather we have been experiencing most greens a little softer and thus tend to lift with the spikes.

for info the TP hard card requires -

1. players have to conform to club rules relating to metal spikes
2. caddies are required to wear non spiked shoes or trainers.

because of No 1 and the hassle associated with changing spikes to soft spikes there are generally less metal spikes on this tour than might otherwise be the case.
