Watching the Challenge Tour at Spey Valley. As a keen hillwalker, I'm very familiar with that part of the country but never played golf there - course looks great. And, of course, a stunning setting.

Anyone played it?

Yip its a great track, I'm also watching it.

Well worth a visit.

Spey is a lovely course, at certain points on the course you could be forgiven for thinking you are 50 miles from the nearest road. Lots of heather should you miss the fairways too in places. Pity we got soaked the day we played it.

H
int hint hint!

That's so exclusive even the website shows only pictures unless you're a member.... and you need to phone to find out how much membership costs.

I think since it's my thread I should join you and Mike for your round there....

Very true, it was baltic!
I dont normally use buggies though, I think that had something to do with it. I walked half of the holes trying to break my footjoys in.

I spent half my day in heather looking for Patrick's golf ball, he really is a duffer!

:whoo:

I believe its about 10K pa and you have to stay in the lodges when you play which are 1K per night.

The prev owner Peter De-Savery was well liked by the locals and had a rec deal with royal dornoch and let some of the other local club members on too.

The guy who owns it now got the hump due to Royal Dornoch telling him he had to be a member of the Struie for 2 years before he could get in the championship.

This is club policy and he didn't like it and thew his toys out.

Now hardly anyone ever plays it. We have a match against them every year but you have to be an ex captain to get in the team:(

A few guys i know have played it and say its the best course around...

I'm told you can just park on the dornoch bridge walk down the beach and play a few holes, but run the risk of getting shot;)

Crawford is your man for that;)

and taking of Craw, thats not how i remember our game at Spey Valley old boy!!!;)

Yes your memory is probably a bit foggy as you were in absolute awe at my laser like 3 wood on the last to 6 feet to set up a birdie. Don't get too down though as I remember you did win the 17th!

:whoo:

Spey Valley is well worth a visit. Even if your golf is rubbish, you'll certainly enjoy the views.

I haven't played Skibo but those I know who have played it found it a little underwhelming in the kind of way that it's ok but wouldn't be bothered if they never played it again.

Perhaps there is a presumption that because the Carnegie Club is an exclusive retreat for the wealthy, the course must therefore be up to the same standard.

It has recently had a massive overhaul which has brought it right up to scratch.

When did they play it???

I played the Carnagie back in 2001 it was a really good course,it was a pity the wind was blowing the opposite way from what it did 90% of the time it was really tough.

We had the course to ourselves not another person was there the whole day,we got looked after like royalty as well.

Its a good few miles from Skibo Castle but you can see it from the course.
