Southerness Links

Played it 3/4 times. Excellent track fast greens. Accuracy is the key and allow for the extra role. If you end up in the gorse/rough take your medicine and do not be too ambitious i.e get the ball back in play..

Some great holes but the wind can be cruel. Take plenty of bowls. We played with a 5 handicapper last year and he lost 11 balls over 2 rounds!

Very tough course,Its basically fairways cut out of a sea of gorse.Miss the fairway and its gone.I think there is 8 par 4s over 400 yards and taking driver off the tee is pretty intimidating, but if your accurate and can keep the ball low you will get a lot of run as the fairways are usually very hard.

Although its a tough course its very enjoyable as long as you don't expect to break any records. You will have to plot your way round and think about every shot.

Update the thread and tell us how you got on.After you've played.

keep your driver in the car and pray for a calm day. played in the scottish boys there a few years ago, stephen o'hara's brother was quoted saying 10 of the par 4s were unreachable in 2 because of the wind that week. smashing course though. keep it way left on the first

Well, what a cracking time was had by me & my brother!!

We played on Thursday 18th (my bro's 40th), tee'd off at 11am in what can only be described as perfect conditions, bright sunshine, a balmy 22 degrees and a light breeze (how lucky is that!!!) with a member who was just looking for a game, played the 1st off the yellows and the rest off the whites, OMG what a tough course!!!!

I shot 44 out and 46 in, losing about 6 balls in the process but what a tough finish, starting with the 13th (which as a 470yd ish par 4 which I got par on i might add) the last 6 holes are brutal!!

We then went and had a drink and a bite to eat and went back out at about 5pm where I proceeded to have the round of my life and was only 6 over par for the course (albeit playing off the yellows this time) when daylight beat us and we had to walk off at the 16th tee as we could no longer see....gutted
:(

Lovely course which i'll definitely play again, however I imagine it would be an altogether different proposition in anything other than the light breeze we had!!!

Nice one Keef, glad you enjoyed it. Its by far the toughest course ive ever played, tough but enjoyable.

I was over that way at weekend, playing Stranraer and Portpatrick, wish I could of squeezed a game in at Southerness too.
