Sorry Tiger. Turnberry was wonderful

I have just played three stunning courses. Turnberry, Southerness and Silith on Solway. I am hooked on links golf and with the Masters coming up again I want to raise that old chestnut.

What is the best course used for a major?

I will get you started. The best, by a million miles, is Carnoustie with Augusta just beating Old Musselburgh and coming in at a respectable 15th.

Agree Carnoustie is great. Tough track with great finishing hole. Plenty of opportunity for heartache, drama, and the occasional Frenchman going paddling.

Also agree Ailsa course is fantastic too. Such a marvellous backdrop to the golf.

But I do think Augusta is well up there. Amen corner is such a treacherous stretch of holes so always plenty of drama and scope for glory or disaster. It keeps the championship alive right to the end.

Also think St George's is a great test. Hope the Open is a classic. I really fancy Westwood for it this year.

Not sure you can say St Georges is up there with a lot of the ones on the Open rota and to me is probably the weakest of the lot. I think it would be Carnoustie for me followed by Ailsa. I'm not sure about Augusta really. Never any penal rough of note and too much emphasis on chipping and putting. I prefere a good tough US open course with thick lush rough and super quick greens where the straight hitter gets the rewards. Of these nothing is more picturesque than Pebble beach

Don't get me wrong, I love my Open courses. Turnberry is wonderful and Carnoustie beast. But it has to be Augusta. Is there another course that gets you as excited about golf as Augusta?

It's the start of the season for us all. The place looks like Heaven's golf course. It's just magic.

Carnoustie is a tough tough trck but its not a gret track.

Muirfield is a better layout and experience.
