That's golf unfortunately Jon.

I'm a high handicapper, I'll play a round with some good shots involved which certainly boosts the confidence. Next round I'll play like somebody who's never played before.

It's frustrating, but you know you can play better.

You're spot on about having a lesson. Just had one the other day for my fairway iron play. Certainly made a difference. Taking it to the course saw me hitting them sweeter and crisper with much better distance. Confidence sky high again!

Trouble is, when I next hit some bad shots the confidence will start to wane again. :(

I sympathise with you. I'm striking my driver well but the distance I have lost with my diabetic induced weight lost has robbed me of at least 20 yards (was only averaging 210 yard drives when flushed them).

Its killing me as I can't reach the really long par fours now and I'm putting so much pressure on my short game.

Try not to focus too much on the negative side of things. Your driving will improve again in time and with a lesson. I think it is more significant that your iron striking is so good.

If you can nail it off the fairway you must be swinging pretty well so maybe you were just trying too hard with the big dog. Hope it improves for the long weekend though

it happens to everyone, it just all seems worth it when you can actually co-ordinate a good day with the driver, a good day with the irons and a good day with the putter in one. Currently my driving and iron play is decent but when this is the case my short game lets me down and if that was good you could bet your bottom doller something else would go wrong. I was pin high in regulation on all but 2 holes last sunday but still only ended up with four pars. Whenever I'm playing a shot around the green it seems to end up way left of my target at the moment and 2 weeks ago there was no sign of this. Trust me I, as we all do, feel your pain.

You have to love it though. :D

Mate.if you are hitting something well then there cant be too much wrong with the fundamentals.

The basics of the swing are the same for all shots really, stick with it and dont get too down.

Open your stance a little john, it sounds like you arnt giving yourself enough room to swing. Im melting the ball at the moment and the only time is goes wrong is when I dont give my stance enough thought.
