Noticed a few patches on our 3rd hole last week that had been rooted around and dug up seemingly by something, it had made a real mess of one side of a greenside bunker to be honest.

Tonight, quite a few patches on the 1st similar :-(

Now, we arent exactly in the sticks here in the east Riding, so it isnt Wild Boar, but after seeing what they can do in parts of France, it looks similar .

We also have Deer around often, and have seen one or 2 Badger sets before, but never either on the Golf course.
Any ideas anyone ?

bain't be moules, they'm dig uppards - we got loads if you want some, traps all over the place.

bajers (as spelled in some village records from the days of bagor bounty - eight different spellings on one page) can make a mighty mess, scrapes tend to be wide and can go deep going for roots and worms.

plain ole dogs?

Sounds like Badgers to me. Got any Wild Boar in your neck of the woods?

And there's only one way to get rid of a mole........

Just to clarify. I was aware that it wouldn't be moles on my first post. Certainly from the original posters description.

I just couldn't resist the whole mole thing.

(Just in case some of you thought that I couldn't read or something!)

Foxes or badgers, as many have already said.

Could be Badgers/Foxes but surely with such a keen eye you would have noticed prints to give you a clue, do you think these culprits wear soft shoes or walk on tippy toe to hide their true ID? LOL

Could be truffle hunting pigs, with wierd frenchies in stripey tee shirts with onions round their necks and a beret.

Have you checked for a slight hint of garlic in the air?

lol I hardly need a keen eye to spot the amount of ground shifted around our 3rd green I can tell ya.

Foxes ? nah.....with the amount of wabbits around our place they wont be diggin for worms......

Badgers.....hmmmm........could be, but they usually are very shy so I cant imagine they have a set on the course.
Plus, the scrapings are quite a way apart, on different holes.....

Strange.

I bet its badgers, they can make a huge mess and destroy large areas if nothing is done . They will travel some way to find food. I have had my own problems with badgers.

They are a highly protected critter so a careful approach is needed. If your club do things illegally they can be in serious trouble

We had to provide food for them away from the playing area, whilst eradicating the food in the playing area. The food is generally grubs (leatherjackets or chafer grubs) we sprayed the area with chemicals and soon the badgers moved else where.

If the problem continues, your club can phone the Wild Life Trust and they will help move them, at a cost!

Good luck

I think you may have wild boars. We had (have) the same problem here. We're on the outskirts of a Spanish city of 150,000 inhabitants. Permission was obtained from the Town Hall to shoot the b******s and a low voltage fence has been erected. Seems to have helped, but hasn't completely erradicated the ''problem''.
