so i turned up at my local course this week just as a police car was leaving, speaking to the pro we find out there has been vandelism again- happens every few weeks, normally just a few marks from a quad or bike at worst they've driven over a green. walking down the 2nd tee its clear its worse this time. The idiots this time have gone for what can only be described as a joy ride around half the course in what looks like 2 cars! i'm talking fairways ripped up completely, several tee boxes and greens with skid marks, and 2 greens and tees in particular that have had donughts done on them to the point they look like a ploughed field. i'll post pics when i can.
now my course isnt in a deprived area, its not in the middle of a city and is a few miles from the nearest town with quite a well to do private college right next door. so who ever has done it has gone out of their way to get there, hunted around to find a gap to get through on to the course all in the name of them having some 'fun'.
now i know that the world isnt fantastic and there are those out there that see this as not hurting anyone. but how and why can anyone not see the impact this has. not only is there the disruption to the course, the money that has to be spent to repair it, spoiling the enjoyment for a few hundred people every week, but there is the resut of the additional money in added protection to stop it again, the possible increase in fees, the possibility of driving players from the course, people's livlihoods at stake, and why?? all because society has led certain people to believe that this sort of behaviour is acceptable and that even if caught they wont be punished.
now i dont pretend to have the answer i only know that we as a country and community need to do something before its too late before this downward spiral of society is too much that we can never recover.
rant over, thanks for listening
