Anyone on here who either runs or is a member of a golf society?

Just wondering what set-up you have concerning members fees.

Do you have a one-off fee for the year (to cover prizes etc) or just charge an entrance fee for each event - or perhaps a combination of the 2?

We pay 20 at xmas, and then about 55 per meeting. Each meeting has prizes (sponsored by a society member, so cost the society nothing, it costs about 80 to sponsor a meet, but can be split between two), and then bacon roll, lunch, and dinner. 27 holes of golf, as 36 is too many for the coffin dodgrers.

The 20 is used to subsidise the meetings a bit, and help with the deposits.

Pay £15 per annum membership, then Spring, Summer and Autumn outings are charged separately, depending on venue.

We pay £20 a year then £2 above the green fees at each meet.

We have cash prizes instead of trophies and balls for longest drives/nearest the pins.

We have £20 a year, and between £40 and £50 per event (8 between March and October) which usually includes 9 holes, lunch, 18 holes, Dinner and prises. A sponsor will put something in as a subsidy. The best part is after the meal, people get fined for wonderful stuff (walking off the tee before all played, having played the course before, using a GPS system, leaving a putter on a previous green etc...)

We charge €60 annual sub and between €30 and €50 for 11 of the 12 outings we organise.

Captains weekend is charge differently due to various factors--some go for the weekend, some for one night only and others are day trippers. Partners are also welcome.

We pay £85 per year and £45 at each venue which includes tranport, meals and prizes.we also go on tour each year which is subsidised.

Our society looks like a cheapie compared to most here.
We don't bother with a meal, so it's just the green fee (try to keep it as cheap as - typically £15 to £25 here in the North East)
Also £3 goes towards the sweeps (£2 towards overall winner, 50p nearest the pin, 50p longest drive)
Any other costs we have (trophies that I have purchased this year etc gets taken out the sweep a little at a time)
Things are tight up here :)

We currently just charge an extra 100kc (3 quid) to cover the cost of prizes (fancy glass medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd) plus bottles of wine longest drive & closest to the pin.

Don't really want to start putting up cash prizes, as we have enough problems with slow play, without players being even more worried about missing out on a nice little pay day!!

Society has over 60 members (is this a lot compared to other Societies?) although we only usually get around 15-25 at each event (4 held so far)

Just be interested to see how we compare to other societies out there

We collect yearly subs of £15. We then charge each day for whatever we play, normally 36 holes, 18 as a team (am) then singles (pm) depending on the day this can vary from £60 -£85, this would also include prizes & food. We also provide a prize for the player of the year for the best 3 scores over the year.
The subs go toward the admin costs posting out invites and directions for those still using snail mail. Also to keep a small fund to cover license and software updates on the handicap software we use.

60 members sounds like a busy society we have around 80 this year.

Our society plays every other Tuesday afternoon (which I suspect is more frequent than others?) from mid April to Mid October. We do this, so we only have to take half a day holiday/ flexi.
Our 'membership' could theoretically be made up from anyone from our council (including females - we have 2), ex-workers, and friends/ family. Our average this season has been 16 players, which is well up on previous years, since I took over :) )
We do not have a joining fee, just cost of the round & £3 sweep. Admin costs are small, just postage for the small number of clubs who ask for a deposit, which i absorb.

Increasing from 14 games this season to 16 next. Introduction of Grand Prix scoring system for trophies at the end of the season for top 3 has added interest
