Hi folks
We are thinking of a new TV for the front room. 42 inch and think smart TV
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Not wanting to spend over 600 if poss.

I think that's the one I've got. Good tv, good picture, I live in a village with crap broadband so don't use much of its capabilities but footie and golf are great on it. - especially Crystal Palace!

What's your thoughts on him?
I'm not a fan tbh. (Understatement)
Loves a camera that bloke.
At least you've got the cheer leaders tho :whoo:

I have a Samsung UE series 3D Smart and to be honest with having Sky, I think I have used the Smart capability about twice in 2 years. I use 3D a bit but other than that not much.
My Onkyo amp has DLNA capability so don't even need the TV for that.

The first time around I was gutted that he got the job but by the time it all went pear shaped with administration I had warmed to him. I'm open minded whether he's yup to keeping us in the Premier

I have a panasonic viera 650 series. I think the 42 is about 550

Just to echo the sentiments of others. Used the smart tv features maybe twice in 2 years. Also beware that on some you need to buy a wifi adaptor or be in range of an ethernet cable.

Just in from a mates house. He recently got the Sony 42w829 from Argos. (Think he actually paid £479 though) Very.co.uk also stock them at £549 and offer 10% discount to new customers. Just to note they also do the 47' LG for £649 so that would be <£580 with discount.

I was amazed at the quality of the picture and the passive 3D was very very impressive. I have an earlier model Samsung that has active 3D and it was a horrible feature. Heavy expensive glasses, ghosting images, good depth but little coming out, the 3D experience that was more meh than wow.

On the Sony the 3D was excellent, depth was there but stuff also popped out of the screen. Glasses were also very light and comfortable. Best thing is you can also use cinema glasses so replacements and spares can be picked up any time you go out to see a 3D film (at least in our local cinema it's easy to take the glasses). Even then they are only £9 a pair from sony and you can get compatible pairs online for less than £5. This means the experience can be shared by pretty much anyone that would be watching with you rather than severely limited in the case of active 3D sets. Does need mounted at eye level though so mount higher on a wall may not be the best to use the feature.

Blacks were great and colour was rich. Sound was impressive from the TV and has a nice surround simulation setting that worked well. Suffers a little from a lack of bass (as most of the slimmer TV's do) but not a lot and the addition of a sound bar with subwoofer would soon sort that out if it were an issue. Also has wifi built in so no issue with dongles/adapters etc.

Actually thinking of picking one up myself soon despite having a perfectly good 42" TV already. May consider the 50" if I can find it for a good price.
