Small headed irons?

Since taking up the game, I have been playing with a set of 2008 Callaway Big Bertha's.
I hit them ok, but they are huge & off putting at address.
The other day I was hitting my trainer club, with has a very small head, I was hitting it extremely well.

The training club is much nicer & less off putting at address, it got me thinking about changing my irons for a set with a smaller head, does anyone have any recommendations?
 
go for the old nike pro combos. lovely small headed clubs. bladed short irons and half cavity 5,6 and 7 and full cavity 4 and 3! perfect !

around £100 on ebay. beautiful sticks!
 
I currently play older Titleist 962b irons and the heads are very small,thing is I find that the smaller headed irons help me focus more, after all weither it be a small headed iron or a ridiculous oversize iron you've still got to hit it on the sweet spot,go small and eliminate the "ive got a cushion with these oversize heads" thoughts,youll focus better...........
 
Plenty of options both new and second hand. Best option is to try before you buy whatever you decide to do. Lots of these smaller heads still offer a good degree of forgiveness so small doesn't mean hard to hit
 
Currently have a set of MP-32's that have a nice compact head.

Getting fitted Monday for a set of MP63's and a set of wedges. Again the MP63's have a nice compact head, thin top line and, most important to my eye, very little off-set.

I say this on most threads. If something gives you confidence in golf it's not a bad thing.
 
Most of the above would seem fine, though I10 or I15 may be 'better value' than I20s. Lots of options in the Mizuno range too, though the numbering can be confusing!

As long as it's not purely ego, there's as many arguments for guys at your level using less forgiving clubs as there are for using more forgiving ones. Also depends on how fast you intend, an are capable of, reducing you handicap in the near future.

And there's also as many arguments for low 'cappers using GI clubs as there are for using 'player' ones imo!

It all comes down to personal taste really and you seem to prefer the less chunky style - as do I.

Definitely not ego.
It is my intention to get my handicap down as low as possible this year.
I have already played to 18 this year in this horrible weather & even then I made mistakes, so I know there is more to come.
I think something just clicked into place with my swing & ball striking lately, I just hope it's not a temporary thing!!
I just feel more confidant stood over the ball with a small headed iron as opposed to a shovel on a stick.
The iron I used today had a silly small head & I was creaming it into a gale.
I will have a look around & see what catches my eye.

Indeed. These are the ones a couple of low guys I know have gone to. Another went oversize Vega, which, while worked as well, just doesn't look right! :confused:

There's a Mizuno fitting centre at Long Ashton apparently. Could well be worth checking their range out even if going 'previous' model - they generally don't change all that much.
 
I had the same mind set a few months back.

Eventually purchased some Nike VRS' that are a lot smaller than the irons I was using before that were a starter set.
