Evening all,
I was out today had 30 points in very soft conditions so happy enough....
Got some words of wisdom from an old chap which when i thought about it echoed Mark Wahlbergs phrase in Shooter.
"Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast"
When he looked at my swing he reckoned that i was forcing my clubs too much causing all sorts of problems in accuracy and posture for me....
He had witnessed me hitting my 3 Wood off the tee's quite comfortably and wondered why i was forcing my irons....
What transpired was 6 holes of small lessons which at the end of them had me hitting my irons nice and smooth and accurate....
He had told me to club down on all my existing yardages and swing within myself and id be a better player for it......

My post a few days ago wich had me doubting my purchase of my new irons is in the past as the fats and thins that had haunted me were caused he reckons by swinging at the ball and asking too much of the clubs.....I seemed to be lifting my head and my body at impact coming up off the ball causing all sorts of wicked stuff.

All i had to do was swallow my pride

Lesson learned :D :D

I'm glad you've found something that works for you, and long may it continue :)

Strangely, I find that my fats/thins etc come when I'm trying to swing within myself, and my best shots are when I feel like I'm trying to hit it hard.

Maybe when you're slowing it down you're getting stuck on your back foot.

I find i only do that if i take my eye off the ball so to say. Think I am playing well so relax and loose my concentration.
However, normally i never do it. I try not to play full shots as i find it easier to spin the ball with 1/2 or even 1/4 shots with the 52. For example yesterday it spun off the green!! A full five feet (never done that before)

And a good lesson for me too. Thanks for that.

Slowing things down works well for me too - to a point.

Went out the other day and hit some very pleasing iron shots into the heart of the green where I'd normally finish short or wide.

Only problem was I could not hit a wood all the way around the course :-(

One day I may just pull it all together on the same day!

It happens Matty.....
Some days you'll go out and drive everything straight down the middle and wont be able to get a ball in the hole unless you physically put it in there.
Other days you'll knock putts in from all angles.....
And when everything clicks you'll wonder why you cant do it every week...... :D

Good advice, a lady golfer told me similar a few months back and it helped me, not a lot but enough.

I did a load of work on my tempo over the winter and posted a video of my swing back in January which is much slower than the blur of flailing limbs that was the predecessor.

I used a CD called tour tempo (www.tourtempo.com) which is basically a series of notes on a musical track on a 3:1 rhythmn as the guy that did tour tempo has discovered that the top players all have this. It means that the backswing is 3 times as slow as the downswing. There are different tempos for a long lazy swing like Els or someone much quicker but all keep this principle. I did burn a couple of copies for some of the guys on here. It does take some getting use to and the key is to really listen for the note and not to pre-empt it particularly on the second note which is the trigger for the downswing.
