Slow play/over booking

Thing is with golf, only about 20 minutes of it is doing the thing I love, playing golf. The remaining 4 hours odd is waiting, the thing I hate most.

My round takes as long as it takes and ..

a) an hour either way does not eat up my Saturday but could mean less time in the bar.

b)if waiting upsets ones rhythm maybe rushing could do the same for others.

c)if all the field in front is four balls and they are all playing behind the game in front (as opposed to, in front of the game behind!)I then have a problem with letting singles, two balls and three balls through my group, just because they cannot get playing partners.

Should I let all the non fourballs through, during a medal, I would suggest that my waiting time would then be another hour at least and maybe the non fourballs will be off home happy but my four will be sad!

For me the problem with slow play means I can't get into a rhythm. I know you can't always walk to the ball and play as it may not be your turn but within that boundary I like/need to keep moving. If I have to wait for 5-10 minutes to play a shot I find it tricky to get the natural balance back again.

Ah! So that's why you fatted that 7 iron on the 18th at Blackmoor in June? :D ;)

Anytime I find myself in this situation I sometimes play 2 balls. If my driving is off then I wait and drop for the second shot. Sometime means I play the equivalent of 36 holes in my 4 hours or so.

b)if waiting upsets ones rhythm maybe rushing could do the same for others.

As I said above though, only 20 minutes is actually playing. So how come walking 3 1/2 miles in 3 1/2 hours is rushing? Heck, I could slow the golf right up, and waste 40 minutes swinging a club, and I'd still have over 3 hours to walk 3 1/2 miles.
