Does anyone know if you have to use the Skycaddie specific one? I only ask as I loathe having 20 different cables in a drawer when some do the same thing. I am thinking that the connections must be the same as a TomTom or as a Canon camera data transfer cable?

Cheers

I have a mini USB cable permanently connected to the PC - anything that needs that size is connected to it.
I do use the SkyCaddie mains charger though I think my in-car one is a generic.

Won't any USB cable do the same job as long as it has the same connection plugs?

Yes, if it fits, it'll work.

(as far as I know)

I have at least 3 different sizes of mini/micro usb in my laptop bag. I do however use the original skycaddie one for the skycaddie, only 'cause the label makes it easy to spot.

I use the original USB cable that came with the unit but any mini-USB cable ought to do it. For a car charger I use one from a Motorola V3 phone. Already had one in the drawer so it didn't cost me any more. They charge extortionate amounts for original cables - yes they're probably better made but even 3 cheap ones fron eBay will last longer and wont bugger up your unit.
