SKY charging additional fees for Premier League

I really don't get the argument or at least justification for IPTV. I'm not making a morale argument for or agaisnt it, but imo people just are just look g for excuses as to why they have it.

If sky weren't showing these extra games would people be up in arms? Did people give sky any credit when all the extra were free?

It's like £30 a month to watch loads of sports you like. Yet people say it's a wrip off whilst paying far more than that for one round of golf/new clubs etc.

If you wanna get it free/cheap, just do so. But don't make out like its your disgust for sky that drove you to it.

It's not really that at all, you're sort of missing the point of some people getting IPTV. It's like around £40 a year for just about every channel worldwide, all ppv events etc. The argument is you're daft not to get it as it's so cheap. I have it but I barely use it, it's useful for films and stuff but it's so unreliable. I still have a Sky subscription but I've sacked off sports for now however I may get it back.

ISP , Sky , BT , Netflix etc are all going through a huge push to crack down on the illegal streaming etc - a lot of work going on , some big fines for some people already

Is IPTV legal?

It’s legal until you start streaming/downloading/ watching any subscription content that you haven’t paid for via the provider

I think your point is valid if you have it on top of a subscription to watch stuff unavailable such as 3pm games.

But if everyone got it then all of a sudden that wonderful free stuff would vanish as nobody would be paying the companies actually have their products streamed.

I'm not sure, I know the IPTV stream providers are illegal, but whether it's illegal to watch I have no idea. I do know one thing, you're not going to get arrested for having a firestick with IPTV on it ?
As had been touched upon, Sky etc are really cracking down, IPTV providers have been moving servers abroad to avoid losing streams. I don't watch it often but apparently a lot of streams go off at kickoff time and come back on once a game has finished.

My original view was that this is fair enough.

Sky & BT have a deal to show a certain number of games, not to broadcast every game as they were doing post lockdown and for the 1st month or so of the season. Most weekends you would have 5, maybe 6 games broadcast with Sat lunchtime, sat tea time, Sun lunchtime and Sun teatime 4 bankers... with the odd Friday night, Saturday night or Monday night making up roughly half of the games being televised.

However my view about it being 'fair enough' changed this weekend when the Liverpool and Arsenal games were both selected as PPV fixtures. Obviously most weekends both Liverpool and Arsenal would have televised games, and the odd week one team would be a Sat 3pm and not televised.

But it must be very unusual to have both teams not on the normal package of games on a weekend. Especially Arsenal v Leicester who are two 'top teams' who qualified for Europe last season and would have expectations of doing similar this year, or even getting involved in the top places. I'd be interested to know the last time an Arsenal v Leicester weekend fixture wasn't televised. I'd guess it would date back to the previous time Leicester were in the PL.

So my guess is they know they need a certain number of subs to make the PPV viable, they won't get them with Burnley v Brighton etc. So they are going to cherry pick some of the top fixtures to try and make the economy work around it and pad out extra revenue.

Even though I'm a keen Arsenal viewer / fan, I refused to pay for this last night on principle. I pay enough for Sky and BT, I don't expect them to show every Arsenal game but there's plenty of football to watch across a weekend without shoving another £15 at it.

I know a few people who have these and for me, it would just ruin the enjoyment too much.

I've been at my brothers & mates trying to watch a game and both times the experience was average in terms of having to refresh, buffering, picture break up etc.

Ultimately watching sport is one of my main hobbies and I would just hate to be watching a big event and not have a perfect, reliable picture on screen.

not if you use a VPN.

Like you, I've got Sky but also use IPTV. In my case, to watch my club's home games which are not broadcast in this country. I would happily pay to watch them, but that option is not available to me.

Newcastle.....which is the team you were posting about when linking to the BBC article.
I wasn’t only posting about Newcastle as Stu_C also mentioned Everton!

My intention was to no more than show the latest update available on all PL Teams.

As for Newcastle I believe the ones they have sold are only to those who are on the long term price freeze deal and those were starting to be paid for early in 2020, prior to the Covid crisis.

the Newcastle United Supporters Trust calculates that around £7 million in unused season ticket funds is currently held by the club and its not just folks who payed in a one off lump sum, the club continues to take direct debits from supporters who are on long term deals..

Probably once it’s known when supporters if/will return all Clubs in this situation will either refund for the missing games or allow the money to be used in the same way they did at the end of last season, I don’t think Newcastle are unique in this looking at the BBC report.

Appears that they potentially looking to reduce the price from £14.95 to £9.95 after the International break

Article from early Sep on every PL Club and season ticket decisions for this season, says Newcastle have put none up for sale.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/amp/football/54019867

This Telegraph article says they were taking payments from fans, there are others saying the same thing;

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...d-supporters-trust-urges-club-suspend-season/

I think it might be nearer the mark to say they haven't put any new ones up for sale but they certainly appear to have taken renewal money.

As a match going fan, I don't have an issue with the £14.95 cost. Let's break it down; 15 quid for the game, a tenner for two 4 packs from the supermarket & 15 quid for a couple of kebabs or fish & chips, 40 quid for as close to the match day experience as I can get at the moment.

Match day live; 90 quid for the two season ticket seats, 30 quid for a couple of meals in the pub, 30 quid for a round, possibly another 30 quid if it's our week for a second round, a tenner on fares, plus match day programme & fanzine, just shy of 200 quid for the day.

As I said, I don't have an issue with 15 quid per game; it's not like it's compulsory and it provides me with some kind of weekend normality. If you don't want the service you don't have to pay for it, so quite why Sky & BT are getting pilloried for providing something over and above what they are contracted to defeats me.
