In regards to Majors who decided what comps the majors should be i.e The Open and why are there 2 in the USA and not else where in the world ?

I am sure there is a obvious answer , but I really do not know

Cheers

I think there are three US majors (Masters, US open and US PGA) and one in the UK (the OPen).

I agree there should be a fifth but it should either be in Southern Europe or prefereable in the Far East in order to encourage the growth of the game worldwide.

I don't think there are any events in Europe/far east that warrant that status.

Majors are created, they are usually promoted after the prestige earnt from many many years of quality events.

Creating a new major would just demean the status of the current set.

The modern major list was essentially created by Arnold Palmer and a journalist called Bob Drum when they discussed what the professional majors should be on a plane trip in the early 60s over to The Open. Then the events were written about, and the idea caught on.

None of the events belong to the PGA Tour, so the Commissioner of the PGA Tour in the 80s, Deane Beman tried to push The Players into the same category, but has so far been unable to do so.

Originally there were four majors The US and British Open and Amateur championships.
The Western Open in USA was regarded as a Major for a while in America.
Needs to change, but that means banging heads together.

Money talks and if China decide to hold a huge event on the same date as the US PGA championship the players will do what they have always done and follow the money.

I think most people would like the USPGA to be a big comp but NOT a major, bit like our own PGA at Wentworth.

Then there should be a 4th major to replace it which should rotate around Australia/South Africe/Asia etc.

Dont really want 5 majors!
