Hi,

Have got a weekend golfing in Shrewsbury in September. Currently looking at playing Oswestry & Llanymynech but need another good course to play at. Shrewsbury golf club looks OK but i'm after advice on whether there are any courses near to Shrewsbury that would be seen/ classed as better or whether there is a golf pass (3 rounds for £X) for the area that we can make use of.

Thanks in advance
Rich

I live local to there and Shrewsbury Golf Club is a really good course, played there last summer and it was in great condition.
Hawkstone Park on the outskirts of Shrewsbury is another excellent venue with 2x18 hole courses both if which are really well looked after and I'd highly recommend. Hawkstone do weekend packages as it's a hotel too if you need it. Coming 15 mins down the A5/M54 there is quite a few courses in Telford which are up to scratch.
Lillishall and The Shropshire are decent courses. The Wrekin in Telford is another excellent course. Probably the best in quality in Telford from my experience but it is a par 66 with no par 5's yet some of the long par 4's play like a par 5 to be fair.

That's enough waffling for me... Any more info just give me a shout...

Another vote for Hawkestone Park, we've done some weekends there and thoroughly enjoyed it, particularly the 'Hawkestone' course, which is beautiful, around the old Folly or whatever it is.

Well worth a trip.

Hi Rich im a member at Shrewsbury and would highly reccomend it,you wont find better greens.Llany is great and agree with the others about Hawkstone,Oswestry is ok but there are lots better,i prefer the Shropshire,3 x 9s,Telford g and c or Ludlow which is heath land

Hmmmnnnmm. Shropshire.....where's that then? :D

OK, you want to know it like it is, I'll tell it.

Two courses near Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury and Arscott....both OK, depends what you want and like. Best discussed over a PM.

Lots of courses in the area generally. My favourites are Llanymynech (in the north) and Ludlow (in the south). Both the Hawsktone courses are good, but you wouldn't see me at either on full green fee.

There are two up near Oswestry, Mile End and Henlle. I actually really enjoy Mile End every time I play it and v.f.m. it's a good shout. Henlle is up and coming and is worth a play depending on what they charge.
There is an interesting course - Wrekin Golf Club, which I also like a great deal.

Oswestry is Oswestry....what can I say, it's a nice parkland course with a friendly welcome in good condition, but not in my top 3 I must confess....

In the summer (late) I'd choose.
1) Llanymynech (odd-ball, but super fun)
2) Ludlow
3) Wrekin

If you restrict yourself to the North, I guess Llanymynech, Oswestry and Mile End.

If you want to splash the cash, play both at Hawkstone and stay over, you won't regret it....and add SHIFNAL GOLF CLUB as your 3rd.

Ask away.....

Thanks again for the replies. Current list of courses is based on friends previous visits. Don't know the area at all, but Wrekin, Telford G&C (earlier post) and Shifnal look good options.

Llany and Ludlow are looking definite additions, just trying to keep the driving down to as minimal as poss so will consider that with the aforementioned courses.

Thanks
Rich
