Eveing all,
Myself and a buddy played this morning in our winter 14 hole scramble....Perfect says i....As im going through a good few swing issues and the course being like a swap it took some pressure off me as my partner drives the ball well....
Off a combined handicap of 16 we turned 2 over.
We played with another pair of lads........ 1 we knew the other we didnt but the lad we knew was off 7 and the other lad off 12......

What transpired was a lesson in how to score and manage our way around the course...
There is a huge difference in thinking you can play golf and been shown how to play the game....Basically if it had been match play we'd have had our ass's ( can i use that word :O ) handed to us on the 18th....

We were out driving them by 50mtrs or so on some holes but they were like par and birdie machines....

The lad that was off 7 was only driving 170-180 mtrs but was hardly ever off the short stuff..
Looking back on the round now, where we ,ill use the word loosely "attempting" to hit wedges in form 100 and 90 metres they were using 7 8 and 9 irons with lovely soft swings.....And 9 times out of 10 they were either within par or birdie chance on every green....

They were so straight it wasnt even funny.....Short but straight.....

The moral of my story and the lesson i learned today was dont try and hit that career best shot every time......
I know that in my own case if im hitting my 6 iron 145 -150 mtrs thats not always going to be the outcome.....
From now on i think ill be assessing the situation and asking myself well if i hit 10 balls with this club how many will reach the point that i want them to......I think that its fair to say if the answer to that question is less than 9 then rethink your decision.l

I think thats where most of us go wrong, even myself trying to leather the ball
as far as we can.
Good course managment can save shots,as well as driving or putting.
One question though,if he was driving 170-180 his second shot must have been
just as far,or your holes are very short.
