Losing a lot of didtance and the main problem is lack of shoulder turn.

Going for some lessons over next couple of weeks, play off 14. am mid 50's and attend gym a couple of times a week.

Any help would be appreciated and more importantly what gym exercises should I be concentrating on please

Cheers

Hi mate,

there was a post about 5 days ago by Flandango which was called Fitness and Gym work, if you have a look at that I think there was links to some fitness sites , plus lots of other advice. Hope this helps

Cheers

One of the things my pro told me last week to improve my shoulder turn on the back swing was to get my left shoulder over my right knee, and it seems to be helping me. I also need to work on clearing my hips on the follow through to make room, but that first piece of advice struck a chord for me. Then again we are all different, so not sure if it will help you...

Have you been a long hitter? If so, I think it's inevitable that you'll be losing yards at your (our) age. I'm a lower handicapper than you but have never been long off the tee so haven't really noticed any difference.
Weight and general fitness are probably the answer. As you say, turning is fundamental.

It really depends on yoru flexibility as a whole. If you are lucky enough to still be relatively supple it should be easy for your pro to get you to turn fully and release through the ball. If however there is not quite as much as in years gone by, your pro should be capable of adapting your swing to maximise the turn you can make without placing excessive strain on the big muscles such as the back.

Have a private chat with HTL as he is pretty clued up on this sort of thing and may be able to give you more specific advice than me

Homer is right about flexiblity but you should also be aware that tension is the biggest killer of distsance.

I is HTL, best way to relieve tension is a deep tissue massage, they hurt like hell but are great afterwards (sometimes make you fart so beware if a fit bird is doing it)

I posted a link to some exercise on flandango`s post the other day with simple dyno band exercises on.

On the range imagine you are Turning around to shake hands with a person behind you and keep the hips square, you will get some real recoil and snap in your swing.

Soft Hands

If you try to keep your hands soft it will help take the tension out of your arms and shoulders.
