Should shops be open Boxing Day?

Someone help me out here; there’s been complaints about the COVID restrictions ruining Christmas by preventing families getting together, and when they are lifted for the Christmas period, we are now getting complaints that shops might be shut for more than one day. I would have thought that was ideal for everyone who hasn’t been able to see their family...:rolleyes:

I wasn't trying to be clever by mentioning M&S, it's just that in our local shopping centre the leases are based on core hours so late night trading and days like Boxing Day and Bank Holidays cannot be enforced. I appreciate that some Centres stick rigidly to their rules even though there might be no customers about!

never understand why people think shops should be open 364 days a year, let the staff have a some time off

It's a lovely idea but if every shop closed and say Tesco opens they make a killing whilst others don't and won't last for long

Also we are a multicultural nation.. why should non Xmas celebrators be forced to have days off? They might need the cash

At work the only day we aren't contracted for is Xmas day but the control room needs coverage for 1 person 24 hours so 2 people 12 hour shifts triple time I think (which normal overtime is time and quarter) usually it's taken up by the asain controllers
