Should I stay or should I go?

The course I'm playing at this year is frankly not good, it is in a transition period and is going to be a bit upside down for the next few years. On the other hand I joined as a single player and everyone has been really friendly not at all clicky as a lot of courses can be, I now play in a regular 4 ball and really enjoy the company but not the course. I can move to a better course but will have to go through the rigmarole of getting a partner and getting to know people again. I don't know what to do and am in a real quandary. Suggestions welcome.

Move.

It won't take 3 years to make new friends, but I couldn't handle paying to play a potato field for 3 years.

What do you want from a club. Personally any club I was joining would need to have the following

An interesting and challenging course.
Open in most conditions with facility to switch to temps if needed
Able to roll up without booking a time
Drawn competitions and full competition diary
Decent practice ground long enough to hit driver
Regular swindles that are welcoming to newbies
Friendly clubhouse with good banter, decent food and a good bar
Lockers

I'm lucky in that my club offers all of the above. Sit down and think about what's important to you and then shop around. Most clubs are desperate for your business so make sure they work for your money (free round, haggle on joining fee etc). If your club is going through a transition make sure the heartache now won't give way to a shining new nirvana. Remember the grass is always green....

I have just moved from a course that was TBH a field. I was a member for 4 years purely because there was a great group of guys,no cliques or ego's.

Having moved i cant wait to get playing and i know it wont take long to get to know folk.

If you don't enjoy the course, there's no question in my mind.

I like my course the least of the local courses (5). Trouble is, the other close one is not to my taste much either and the best courses are minimum 20 mins drive, which is no good for "popping up" for 9 or some practice or a drink/chat.
The members at mine are the best of the clubs (from my experience) so I know how you feel.

I still enjoy playing the course at mine, so until that changes I'll stick where I am.....it's also frustratingly difficult and I wouldn't fancy being off 9 or 10 at one of the others.....

You're paying to be a member - I would imagine the lion share of your membership goes on course upkeep. If the course is rubbish then move. Maybe you could persuade your pals to move with you???

Dunno, coz if you go, there will be trouble.

But if you stay, there will be double.

:D

Personally I reckon it's better to

Go easy, and step lightly.

But vital to... stay free.

;)
