I know this has been discussed before and I can kind of let go the caddies reading the line of the putt, but should they be allowed to stand behind the player and line up the putter? I know they have to move away before the stroke is played but they can line it up. Just seems wrong to me.

I've voted yes. They give yardages and club choices, so why not advice on putts. Anyway, they have as much, if not a bigger chance of being wrong as the pro.

I think that giving a yardage and club advice and advice on the line is one thing but actually lining up the putter is going to far IMO. The pro is a pro for a reason and should be more than capable of lining up and sinking a put. If they don't then the onus should be purely on them.

Maybe they shouldn't ask :D

I wish someone would line up MY putts

I voted YES.... but considering their talent I'm actually divided on opinion. I don't really mind but I sometimes wish they were a bit quicker that's all.

I voted yes as not sure where you draw the line as to what advice/guidance is acceptable and what isn't.

I can never get on with someone helping me line up a putt and prefer to mess it up all on my own!

I think Caddies should carry the bag, give yardages, discuss the shot, hand over the club, watch the shot, replace the divot, vlean the club and carry the bag to the next shot.
If a Tournament Professional needs lining up by someone who is not either another Pro or a Coach then they have no business being on the same course as the rest of them.

Yes. But make sure you don't take very long!

On the LPGA most of them are lining their players tee shot too.

I've been asked to check a few times, but not normally putts.

I clicked yes as I thought the OP was meaning the reading of putts.

I need to change my decision to "NO" as I don't think lining up is correct and fair.

As someone said, a pro is a pro for a reason.

The help should finish with the agreement on the line and then the pro should address and line up ready for the stroke as he sees best without the interference of the caddy.

Ash!!

I haven't voted, but the caddie carries the bag, end of. Kind of like a two legged buggy. Shut up, keep up. Thats it.

Good point. So what happens if the player hits it into sand. The caddy then has to go and rake it and we're all expected to wait around until he has done that, moved the bag to the exit point and then spent several minutes talking line and length with his employer. That could be 5-6 minutes before he's ready to go and make the putt

Is pretty much what I was going to put, but this is soooooo much better!!

I voted no,

the only thing a caddie should do on the green is to hold the flag, and attend it if asked to.
