Following on from my previous post if you were shopping on a budget what would you get and how old would you go, lets set the budget at £250?

Based on buying new and pretty readily available.

Dunlop Tour TP13 4-sw £71.92

MD ST driver 10.5 regular £59

MD Hybrid 21* £29

Dunlop NZ9 putter £16.99

Dunlop Tour elite stand bag £26

Greenjoy shoes £21

DDH balls at £5.99 for 15

£15 for a shirt, trousers an some tee's and I'm ready to hit the course with change for a coffee.

Second hand market I'm sure I could dig up some bargains and have a better quality set-up for the same money.

All from Completed Ebay sales including postage - which is almost £70 tota!l

Driver TM Superquad TP £31 2006
FW Hawkeye 4 wood £25 2004?
Hybrid Adams Pro Gold 20* £17 2011
Irons TM300 Forged £85 2001
Wedges MD Norman Drew 56 £25 2013 (new)
Putter Yes Tracy II £29 2008?

Total £212

Apart from my new putter (my old one came off ebay for £20) and driver which I paid £99 for, and seldom carry

My 3 and 5 woods came in at £35 for both (although I had to re shaft the 5 wood that was £20)
My hybrid was £30
My irons cost me £100
My wedges were £39 for the 56 and £25 for the 52, and the nz9 lob wedge (when I include it in my set) was £10

So about £240 all in

We're talking a complete set? Or shoes and clothing too?

Checkout Dunluce golf on a popular auction site and checkout their deals on cleveland and md gear

Second this just bought 2 bonded fleeces delivered for cost of 1 else where, have a look and if you email direct chances are you can get a further 10% off if you don't go through the auction site pages.

I dont know your handicap, personally if i was on a budget and starting off golf, i would get a second hand set of ping g15 irons, ping g15 driver, ping g15 rescue 23 degree, A cheap blade putter ping anser design, all second hand off the bay, leave the fairway woods and when you confidant to use them and look for a good deal. I reckon you could get the irons, driver, rescue and putter second hand for 400 quid

If you are looking to go down the 2nd hand route, I will be putting a set in the for sale section in the next couple of days including driver, rescue, irons, sw, putter and bag for about that

I would buy second hand quality everytime instead of buying new that are rubbish

The ball doesn't know or care how much the shiney it was hit with costs.

There is so much wonderful second hand gear out there that, provided you do a bit of research, you can't go too far wrong. I'd say don't stray too far from established brands and if in doubt ask here.

If searching on ebay its always worth seeing what's for sale locally as delivery can push the prices up.
