how often do you change your shoe spikes?

checked mine today and they still seem to have many months left in them. cant even remeber the last time i changed them.

do you actually notice when they need changing? ... slippage during the swing etc?

I've had my current spikes in since early April and I'll change them for the winter soon. Even though they've probably got months left in them. I look at them every time I take the shoes off just in case I've lost one. Think I'm going to try the ProStingers.

I use Champ spikes and they advise once the C has totally worn off to replace the cleats. I also used Prostingers over last winter and they where great, not so good off mats.

First thing I did in Aug 2007 (apart from getting a 3 wood) was to get new shoes. The old ones had lost the veneer on the leather. I got Greenjoys with soft spikes.
Had them re-spiked (for free) by the pro back in about May this year.
20 months.....over 150 games easy.
They'd still be on there if half the prongs hadn't sheared off.

I have the standard soft spikes in my FJ AQL's. Seem to work for me at present. Considering getting some prostingers for the winter.

Do they make a difference?

Yes, you fall on your arse when walking down a steep incline that is concrete. I have!!!!

Cracking spikes though :)

I've had the standard Softspike Pulsars in the Dryjoys. They're okay but don't half clog up at our course leaving the shoes with no grip what-so-ever.

I also tried the Pro Stingers last winter, and whilst they were great on the grass, they were awful on the mats, which is what we play off of during the off season.

So now I'm trying the new Black Widow Tour spikes. I've not been out since fitting them. But fingers crossed.

I bought a set of the black widow tours cleats recently (the red/white ones) and was underwhelmed. They were an ordinary soft spike to me and got very clogged with mud more so than the normal pulsar cleats on FJ shoes. CHanged them after a round and they are now on my range shoes (very old pair of dryjoys in which the leather has started to crack and split)

The biggest fault with FJ is their constant useage of black widow cleats, imho they are very poor compared with Champ cleats. I know the Synr-g have Champs and they are a lot better than the usual FJ attemps.

I get my shoes re-spiked when needed roughly twice a year.

Winter shoes have metal spikes whick I love, the others have soft spikes which I just get the pro to fit -.

I dont really like the soft spikes as they clog like mad then offer less grip than the steel spikes.

I've misplaced the tool to get the spikes off my shoes, do you get a tool when you buy new spikes or will I have to but that seperate?

depends what you buy, and if your cleats are worn down the tool you get probably won't do the job. (use some wd40)

have a look in Sports thingy, they do a Dunlop(?) cleat tool with a big handle for about £2.

There is a tool available for removing spikes whos regular removing holes have split. I've not seen anyone selling them either!

Maybe I should add them to the list if there's enough demand? About £12 rrp.

Is is one of them box type things with a new pair of shoes in?

Thanks viscount, I'll have a look. when I got my shoes I didn't really appreciate the need to look after the spikes.

I shan't be making that mistake again!!!
