Well today i went to the St Andrews Links Academy to see if the shaft in my driver was 1. Correct for me and 2. working as it should be. The driver was 10.5 degree with a Fujikura Blur shaft Stiff 60.

The weather was 4 degrees and a mild zephyr of 23 mph wind into my face.

When speaking to the fitter he said most people who go there with the Blur shaft end up changing it , as i've read on here it ain't meant to be the best , but opinions are arse's everyones got one.

Here's some of the results with the club set at 10.5 degrees.

The fitter said there was no point in changing the shaft are after changing the loft the club was working well for my swing, so a bit of a saving he said to work on the mechanics of my swing more and should get better results.

So cue the piss take about dwarf hitter compared to the 300 yard superstars on here.

Just goes to show what a drop in spin does for your carry - nearly 20 yards by dropping the loft 1 degree!!

Yes Ian was well happy ,it was bloody cold i could tell you that, possibley not the best day to do it,but it just shows what we play in most weeks up here.

They had every shaft you could imagine in there ,non of the made for one either, so was suprised and i think so was he when he said the Blur wa sworking correctly average dispersion was 6.5 yards.
 
Not bad going in those conditions. It would be interesting to see what difference a nice spring day would make to your results. A little warmer air temp and you yourself would be able to swing easier as it'd be warmer.
 
The 1 degree stronger wiped a lot of spin off. That is reasonable distance for your swing speed into wind.

If you hit that in the fairway every time, you can play to a very low handicap.

Cheers Martin, the fairways are tight as 2 coats of paint at my place so being straight is the name of the game. I was hitting it well for a change, as the lessons i've had and the practise put in are coming to fruititon
 
Great Steve. Would love to get this data for myself.

Good striking given the wind and temperature conditions.
 
they are good results especially with a simple change of 1 degree.

did you notice a more penetrating ball flight?it might not of been as noticeable with the head wind but that reduced spin will benefit you so much out on the course.you may notice more accurate shots aswell because of the less spin.

it all depends on how much ball speed you can create.......if your ss and bs are low then you need the extra loft to get more carry distance and overall distance.

simple reason being that you require the height to achieve any distance,the lower the flight the less bs there is to get it out there.

To be honest Wull the light wasn't the greatest but the flight did look better, and as i said the dispersion was really good,lets see if i can take it to the course.
 
Steve, it's been so long since our TM fitting that I can't remember - are the numbers you posted here for the 9.5 degree "ideal" for what you want from your driver? (spin rates mainly) I'm off to demo a few at the weekend but am doing so at American Golf, and I'd rather look at the figures from their launch monitor and know what's what rather than them tell me if they're good or not.

Alan it cost me £30 should be £60 for an hour but once the club was set that was it.

Jon i was fitted for 10.5 degree but the fitter notched it down to 9.5 and i got better results from that,just watch they don't have it set for Tennesee at 40 degrees and no wind and giving you 300 carry haha. Is it just the Mizuno your looking at or have you others in mind ?
 
No bit proven by the ball landing 200 yards in front of me and occasionally hitting the back fence of the driving range that has a 200yard marker 50yards short of back fence.

But never mind tis all about stats isn't it lol
