Shaft de laminating

My driver shaft seems to be flaking at the bottom. It looks to me as if the bit flaking off is not an integral part of the shaft but a cosmetic lamination. any ideas? Is it about to snap, or is it just unsightly?

Yes that is definitely delamination. Personally I would say high risk of shaft snap.
Keep bare fingers away from the flaking bits it is like a razors edge.
