Settings issue help me identify

Help!

I'm new here, but not to forums.
I wouldn't expect to receive the alerts I've been getting when someone simply posts in a thread I've posted in, though I would if it was a reply to a post of mine.
Can someone point out the setting that I need to turn off, presumably, to stop this?
