Sentinalese kill ‘missionary’

It seems unbelievable that any person in possession of all their mental faculties would undertake such a venture but no one seems to be reporting the guy was unstable or mentally ill in anyway

What is his legacy now?
He knew it was illegal to go there so on one hand he can simply be seen as a criminal who was killed when trespassing
Having spent years planning this he also knew he could/would transmit disease to these people but didn’t much care providing he delivered his introduction to Jesus and a football & clearly to him to do so would have been worth their possible extinction

The warning he got a couple of days prior on his first attempt when they shot at him with arrows did not dissuade him in the slightest

The above means I found myself unable to feel any sympathy for him and actually felt for the islanders having to ‘deal’ with him

(and the support group in the US that helped in plan it are in my eyes accomplices to his death in having knowledge of his intentions and failing to report it)

I wonder if many here would be so condemning if it had been a Muslim? Probably not.
Wrong.
The islanders are a protected group who have no relationship with anything from the modern world, they don’t want it and there is genuine concern they could be wiped out by such contact.
The colour of the persons religion is irrelevant, only his stupidity and illegal actions.

I wonder if he was from the same lot who went into aids-torn Africa and told them all not to use condoms

He worked as a missionary for a group called All Nations apparently

I don't wish to sound flippant because of what happened to him but they say he trained rigorously for years for the trip

But I cant help thinking on training day one, the question must have cropped up 'what do I do if I step on the beach and they fire arrows at me?'
And even if that didn't occur in the three years he trained, when it actually happened a couple of days before he was killed why wouldn't he call the office to pose the question then?

Surely the advice would have been, step away/come back to the office! I just cant fathom the circumstances that would direct him to continue with such a sad outcome the only obvious result

I'm interested in how tribes like this survive, not from a hunting point of view but you'd assume that their "partners" are somewhat limited and therefore fairly incestuous.... with the problems that brings I wonder how long they can go on.

On the story..... guy was either naive, arrogant or stupid. Shame for his family.

I remember seeing a TV programme about a 'lost' tribe in the Amazon a few years back. When they got there half the kids were wearing Man United strips!

Maybe he took a wrong turn door knocking in Farnham??

? Random...

Not that many roads in Farnham that might find me getting lost.

But as I probably get the dig at me - just a little note - not all folks doing door-to-door collections do so as Jehovah Witnesses. There are difference you know. And just in case you were wondering - I am more than happy to bear witness to my faith on daily basis. It's not very difficult. But I wouldn't expect understanding from those without any such faith. So be it.
