Sensitive thread possibly (organ donation)

I thought the new system meant you Could take organs without asking next of kin. Me I agree they can take what they want off me. But sister in law is adamant, they are not taking her eyes. Seeing as she had glasses like Diedre Barlow off Corra. They would be no good to anyone else anyway.
They might be to someone with degenerative blindness or whatever it's called where your eyes go off big time.:)
My wife says the same thing, btw. I ask her what good they will do her when shes just ash.

The German parliament had a couple of votes on it today.

They rejected the automatic registration because every person has full rights to determine about their own body. The health secretary wanted to push this through.
They voted for the opposition proposal of you have to declare yes or no every 2 years when you visit your GP or when you apply or renew your passport. One of the options is to let your relatives decide after your death.

I think some people probably might opt in when asked, but they never considered registering themselves on a database without being prompted.

I'm happy with the new system - ie you have to opt out if you don't want to participate. When I'm dead, I'm dead. So is everyone else. And being dead, I might be a bit more useful than I have been so far.

And I never understood, when someone had already agreed to be a donor, why the family/relatives were asked if it was ok. It's my body; I said yes, so why should anyone else (even family) have the option to veto my wishes?
