"Senna" film

Not as good as Damon Hill, who was all over him in Japan, in one of the wettest races ever.

Presumably you're joking !!...Damon's a nice bloke but was a very overated driver. Fortunately, the year he won the drivers championship his car was vastly superior to any other at the time.

They say he was the best test driver ever, that he could set any car up but he was for sure not the best race driver.

He is opening our new village shop soon, so i will ask him. He lives in the expensive side of the village !

Owns a sports car dealer in village, or is that somewhere else?

Not in our village, the local garage was knocked down to put in the village shop. Jeremy Hunt our local MP is also opening the shop, which seems like a bit of overkill on the celebrity front. ;) I get all the gossip because Damon's sister is a friend of my wife's.

Up until his ill fated move to TWR Hill had a strike rate of 1 win from every 3 races he started. No one else has got close to that ratio.
He was pretty good.

My issue with Bootmender is that he was great at running from the front. When he was under pressure though, he cracked. It didn't happen often, but he wasn't a racer in my view.

He also had the best car most of his career. Senna could get a tune out of any thing.

The german is currently showing his true ability with Mercedes. Very average, and can't even out drive his team mate.

Nope Hill was average at the very best, thats why he was kicked out of the team even though he won the championship. You say before he want to TWR, well if you just take Michaels stats for his last year five years at Ferrari they would be better and over a much larger set of data. Your saying that in Hills one good year he won alot of races... In the best car by FAR!

Not only was Michael a great racer he also made the car the best car, he did not fall into the best car like Hill who had money and a father with a name. Michael knew more than just turning the wheel, he knew who to get and how to get them. Once he had them he formed them into the super team that they were. He is the greatest champion there ever was both in the reasons that I have stated and with his seven titles.

What he is doing now, I would be a prat to try and defend... on sundays i look like :( :o :D

IS that not how anybody wins the title, by having the best car?

No....David Coulthard had the best car throughout his career at Williams & McClaren but was always beaten...mainly because he was very average. Schuey won several titles without the best car.

So when Hills famous father died, and the famillies of those killed with him sued Hills mother for all she was worth, such that they had practically nothing left, he was still rich?

Nice trick that one.

Hill borrowed 100k to get started in motor racing. You don't do that if you've got a moneyed familly.

Senna was everything that Schuey is not. It's a pity he didn't live longer.

No one lends 100k to someone who does not have any money.

Senna was a nasty piece of work the same way Michael is, there is little point saying that Michael is nothing when that is clearly not the case.

That Hills name came up in a post about Senna is actualy a bit mad.

I guess this is a "agree to disagree" thing on the Senna/Schumacher thing but I just wont have it that Hill was anything special. He was a world champ, good for him, good for the UK but not special.

I believe that anyone who wins a Formula One world championship is something special. Damon Hill certainly doesn't deserved to be 'scoffed at.

I heard a review of the film on Radio 5 live this morning and by all accounts it's pretty fantastic

Ye the BBC F1 Team have been talking about it for a while and they say the same. I cant wait... anyone want to baby sit for me?

Senna was god.Schumacher was great. in my view Schumacher would not have won those titles if senna did not die.

Alonso is the nearest ive seen to senna.

If Senna was a football manager, he'd play 4-2-4. Schumacher would play 4-5-1.

They'd both get results in their different ways, but I know (and knew) what was FAR more exciting to watch.

None are as good as the guy who tailgated me at 85mph on the motorway last night flashing his lights to get past no sooner had I overtaken some cars - he must have been something special!

I dont know anything about football but enough to get what your saying and I guess I agree. I think Michael was a driver who did everything off track so that when he was on track alot of the work had been done. He was quick enough to make that work for him. Senna was just out and out quick with a bucket of racecraft.

We can debate all we like about who was best, blah blah, but when you hear one of the modern day drivers talk about Senna, and drive the beast that was Senna's car, I think it says all we need to know.

Oh, and the lap @ Donnington was quite possibly THE most skillful lap of any track I have ever seen,.......in the wet, on Slicks, Manual gearbox, with 1200bhp, and comparatively no electronic wizardry to keep the car pointing straight.

I particularly like the in-car shot of him accelerating hard with one hand on the wheel, at Monaco !!!- now thats something today's drivers dont have to do .

Senna

Or his Pole lap at Jerez,in 1990, - note just how bumpy the ride is, Manual gearchange etc, - quite unbeleivable.
