I'm heading over to Scottsdale in May and plan to play a couple of courses whilst I'm out there.

I won't know which days I can play so need something that I'm going to be able to get on a shortish notice.

I'll need to hire clubs whilst I'm there.

As it's a treat I don't mind paying $100-$150 a round for a decent track but happy to play some of good quality cheaper tracks as well.

Any recommendations ?

I have been visiting the area on business for the last 10 or so years and as a result have played a lot of courses in Scottsdale/Phoenix area with a friend that lives in Phoenix. Here is a list of the courses that I suggest you look at (in no particular order):

Troon North, either course
GrayHawk, Both courses
We-Ko-Pa, I have not played the new course, but if it is anything like the old one, both will be good.
Boulders, Only played the South course
Whirlwind, both courses are good
Wildfire, Palmer course is better than the Faldo IMO.
Eagle Mountain
Legends Trail
Las Sendas
Ocotillo
Raven at South Mountain
Lookout Mountain

Notice I do not include TPC Scottsdale. I do not rate the course at all.

A good website for discount tee time is www.golfnow.com

Thanks guys really appreciate it.

I've been to Scottsdale about 4 times already over the past 10 years, but before I played golf. Doh.

I even stayed at one of the golf resorts, can't remeber which though.

I really do like the area.

I won a trip to Scottsdale many years ago when I worked for Mazda. 1992 I think it was.
Stayed at the Scottsdale Princess which was right on the TPC Pheonix golf club.
Although it wasn't a "golfing holiday" I hired some clubs and played at a couple of courses, the TPC being one of them. Played like an absolute dick (I was hacking it around off 23 at the time) so don't really remember much about the courses to be honest, other than the fact that they were surrounded by desert.
They seemed pretty good.

Ok,

Had a reply from both my friend's in AZ, the first one has two favourites: Orangetree and Wildfire (didn't specify which course)

The other guy has listed alot more but would recommend all of the following:

http://www.wekopa.com/Scottsdale
http://www.troonnorthgolf.com/index.php
http://www.theravensouthmountain.com/
http://www.sunridgegolf.com/index.php
http://www.longbowgolf.com/sites/cou...569&page=29635
http://www.kierlandgolf.com/index.php
http://www.thephoenician.com/golf

Some of which would re-affirm some of what TXL said above.
