Scotland Robbed (by hopeless ref)

What you have to realise is who would you replace him with? Has to be someone who knows the game well within the british isles so he knows the players? Scotland have been through a few managers without much success surely that gives a clue regarding the ability of the side as a whole? Who would realistically want the job? He must be a decent manager to get to that level its like someone getting to the top of your profession and the saying your rubbish where as you must be half decent to get there in the first place?

I don't know you but I guess you don't know that much about the Scottish game as this is our strongest squad in possibly ten years. The ability of this squad should easily be able to finish 2nd.

Show me what Avril has achieved within the game as a gaffer?
His C.V. is extremely unflattering.
When it has mattered he has managed a 97th minute winner versus a team who have won 5 games in their history and a win versus Northern Ireland and Wales reserves.

There are umpteen people that should get the job ahead of this failure.Hell,I would even have Smith back and I cannot stand the guy! :p

To get put in charge of a National side is something on its own. He must have something in him as to why the SFA chose him above others? All im saying is there has to be some fault put on the players as well as they are the ones kicking every ball? Whether its the best squad in 10 years doesnt mean it should do well. A lot of the pundits were saying Czechs deserved at least a draw maybe more so for him to get a draw is that not an achievement?

A draw an achievement?

It was a MUST win game FFS!!The Czechs are a poor poor team and had the prat showed a bit more adventure in both games versus them we would have taken at least 4 points from them not the 1 that we have actually taken!

He got the job as he was the cheap option....pay peanuts get monkeys has never been truer.

I think maybe you need to have watched some of the dirge he has served up to understand

Devils advocate from a totaly neutral point of view regarding pauls origional post , he does have a point as when a team looses they more than often look to blame the ref , HOWEVER Paul you have to agree these decisions were horrific ,, ok the game should/could have been won without either penalty decision , but as mater of fact he shouldnt have given the one he did & should have given the one he didnt .. within the rules of the game , the referee probably not intentionaly shaped the outcome of the game & gifted czech a goal & scotland should have had the chance to score theirs ,, ok they they might not have scored but then people would be on saying the player cost them the game not they ref .. scotland should play more to their own strenghts instead of trying to stop the others playing .. mayb they should go for an outside manager next ,, who of quality would want the job tho ??(question not a critisism).. as per the post tho .. yes ye were robbed of the chance of a winner..

You say you should have taken 4 points against them I am sure the Czechs are thinking they should have taken 6 against you? Football is opinions ours differ I think thats all we can put it down to.

+1

absolutely spot on.

Usual pish from self obsessed forumer (insert name) who for once didn't drop in one of references to America (add one from 20-30 in his repetoire).

Feel obliged to patronise a thread that someone posted becuase they felt strongly about what happened. And incase anyone didn't know how cool or successful you are add a pic of yourself next to your personalised golf bag.

It's been boring for a while.

Paul, I don't think my handicap is that of a good golfer.

Says the poster who puts his handicap as his signature to let everyone know how good he is.

I saw the highlights on the box last night. Although its hard to be totally objective with favourable editing I do think Scotland had enough of it to have possibly had a lead they could have defended wit reasonable ease. That said I thought the Czech penalty claim in the first harsh looked like a spot kick to me

As for the farcical ending, clearly two wrongs don't make a right and I think the ref made a serious blunder on the one he gave and then bottled giving the Scots a legitimate one. I don't watch a lot of Scottish football or the national team very often but there did seem to be the nuclueus of a very good and very YOUNG side which if allowed to mature and develop without a rash of managers coiming and going, could become a competitive unit

I agree with absolutely everything Dodger has said on this subject. Since when has finishing 4th with Dundee Utd merited getting the top job? Any goodwill I may have had towards him vanished the night he made an arse of me and my countrymen watching the debacle in Prague. That was bad enough, but to insist that it was the correct tactics and show no contrition whatsoever was the final nail in his coffin as far as I'm concerned.
Craig Levein and I are done!

Here's a thought just to throw in the mix;

If you had the Barcelona team in Scottish strips with levein as manager would they all lose their natural skills, determination, flair for the game and perform badly on the field?
Once the game starts there's not a lot the manager can do really!

You'll always get bad and very bad referees, -England have had some shockers against them but their team is still strong- plus a bad referee doesn't stop you scoring more goals.............if your good enough ;)

Formations let you have or not have the chance to score goals and this man Levein is clueless. We have injuries and suspensions to our strikers available for Tuesday yet he has said he is not going to call anyone up!!

Expect a 4-5-1 formation on Tuesday against the highly talented Lithuania (at home I remind you)and try and hit them on the break.....feck knows what plan B will be if Goodwillie gets crocked....probably bawbag Naismith up front himself or maybe the good old 4-6-0 again.

Fud doesn't even come close.

I dont agree with the formations give you a chance to score or not. If not you may as well play a 046 formation and score loads but it doesnt work like that. 451 can be easily adapted to 433 as it usually allows the wingers to play high up the pitch like united and barcelona have done the past few years. End of the day though 11 players go out there and do as they want once they cross the white line.

Out of interest what player changes would you have made to saturdays line up? In what set up etc?

Firstly I would not have played Adam in the role he was....criminal,but just another misuse of resources just like all the other games so far.If he wished to play on the side of caution I cannot understand why he didn't play a 4-2-3-1 with Adam and Fletcher sitting. Watch Liverpool, Adam plays the crossfield and hollywood balls but it is only because Leiva (who is a great player but nowhere near as good as Fletcher) sits and mops up everything in front of the defence. And when I say 4-2-3-1 I mean just that not the 4-6-0 it often was on Saturday.

I was fairly happy with the players in the team but not of the tactics,Morrison (Snodgrass or Dorrans for him) and Naismith (Bannan for him) should have both had the hook but the goal came at a time which meant Avril would be even more content to sit it.

Also, surely having 7 substitutes means 1 goalkeeper, 2 defenders, 2 midfielders and 2 strikers on the bench. I have high hopes for Wilson, but a left back he ain't. I am not for a second saying that either Wilson or Levein is to blame for a blatant dive inside the box, but, with a half fit fullback on the right, surely he should have a back up there if needed.Playing a 19 yo centre half at left back instead was ridiculous and more so when you have Robson on the bench who has played hunners of times at Left back.

It's awful but I am kinda hoping we drop points tomorrow so this knob will get the bullet. :(

Well at least you have ideas of how things could of changed not just moaning at managers. With them changes you may of won you may have lost or couldve been the same result we will never know. You would hope that if people wernt fully fit that they would have faced a fitness test before being named. One thing is said that we dont get to see though is what happens in training if someone has been rubbish in training then you may not play them but we dont get to see them sessions.

The most disheartening thing for me as a Scotland fan is that we actually now have a reasonable squad for the first time in years with young attacking players.

And yet we're still playing the uber-defensive drivel that we used under Walter Smith. I'm not bashing Smith, he had one of the worst teams/squads we've ever had and was trying to get the most out of it and, to a degree, was successful at that.

However, if we are going to improve as a team in terms of results and qualifying for tournaments we need to go and win games. Sneaking a 1-0 with a backs to the wall is good against Holland/France etc. It does not cut it against a team as poor as the Czechs are at the moment.

Levein (like the Avril name!) must have been able to see we were abysmal in the first half yet couldn't/didn't/wouldn't do anything to change.

If Adam doesn't have the ball he's a waste of space.

Just frustrating after years of "we've no players coming through" that finally we do, and they are wasted by the management.
