while i agree with most of what you put, however i would be very sceptical of people switching from cheap Booze to hardcore intravenous drugs in such a short period of time.

lets not forget from the last published figures 3 times as many deaths in England from Drugs, Scotland has a higher proportion as a % of the population, so neither is anything to be proud of

And even if there is a causal linkage between alcohol unit pricing and hard drug usage, that linkage is one that, I would hope, becomes less significant over time as the numbers who were reliant on very cheap and very strong alcohol reduce and use of i/V hard drugs becomes one of choice rather than need - addicts have a need - it is not a choice.

Anyway - I am in Fortrose for a few days late September on a short break and visiting relatives - and so opportunity knocks for a local Haddie and Chips - I will studiously avoid DF Mars Bar and Pizza

Don't hold your breath, Chippy is Fortrose is pretty poor, the one in Avoch used to be really good, the guy had specials and fresh fish every day sold up... Pizza now, they might deep fry one for you

i would Suggest Suter creek in Cromarty, seafood platter is pretty good

Anyway - I wonder what Hugh Miller would be thinking about the drug problem in Scotland - and - no doubt to some degree - in Cromarty.

They were first sold in Stonehaven in the 1990's mainly to kids, and spread from there. I have never seen them sold anywhere else other than in Scotland.
Obesity levels in Scotland are higher on average than anywhere else in Britain.
While I love the place I dread the hygiene and unhealthy food there. I even went down with food poisoning in Durness once.

There are multiple areas of England that have exact same problems, just your average wealth is a bit higher so the per capita number looks worse even though you've 10x our population.

You dread the unhealthy food? You can buy whatever food you like healthy or unhealthy, no one is making you eat fry ups and guzzle irn bru. There is a choice believe it or not.

You can think yourself lucky - I (and the rest of my family) was once nearly blown off the Durness cliffs...now that was scary...

what a load of rubbish.. the myth of the DFNB was going long before the 90's never seen one or heard of anywhere selling them.

as maxi says plenty of healthy options where ever you go, can't think of many Fast food restaurants in Durness either

No where else has obesity problems , Drugs, Alcohol, or has given anyone food poisoning???

Why do you treat all of Scotland like it's an island 5 miles wide, water in Edinburgh is not the same as water in Orkneys or Lewis so you cant generalise - some areas have good water, some don't like anywhere else in UK. Would you compare London with The Lake District in the same way?

Trump and Johnson may be beefy, although Johnson has lost a bit of late. Trump wasn't fat in his younger years, his looks like an ageing weight gain thing. Poverty related obesity starts very early.

The only place I've ever wanted to drink bottled water is London.

I eat any old food (except DFMB's) and my BMI is 22. There again I eat in a week what Trump would eat in a day.

Johnson has lost a bit of late.
