Scored 35 points yesterday and totally hacked off

WHY?

Twas the normal Friday with Imurg & CVG See Imurgs post about his feats.

Front 9 was a bit scabby but raised 17 points, nothing special, but acceptable, irons not working, but shortgame saved me.

First 6 holes of the back 9 bought me 16 points, 2 over gross for the first 6 holes of the back so Imurg was displeased :-) I was quietly smirking inside

I walked off the 15th and then the thought hit me, " I was on for my first ever BLOB FREE round"

well that was it, Kiss of death big time, played like a complete *** and blobbed the next 3 holes.

From King to pauper in 2 minutes, ended up within handicap buffer zone, so on the face of it, not a bad round, but it should have been a better result

obviously I cant handle the mental side yet

Still there is always next week

Easily done, mate. Easily done.

Did it at Woodhall Spa last year. 31 points up to the 14th, having played sensibly teeing off with a 3 wood. Felt the urge to get the big dog out and blobbed home. Gimp.

It could also be worse. One of our members (off 12) was four over gross stood on the 18th tee in a medal. Dropped it into a greenside bunker and twelve shots later, just walked off, almost in tears.

Happens to us all. Just remember the first 15 holes and forget the last. Glass half empty or half full?

I always seem to do this to myself..im fine until i start working out in my head or checking my card to see where im at with score, then it all goes tits up!

I even did it on my PB last week, was 10 over gross through 16 and doubled 17 and 18, Doh!

....still cant find these pesky smilies! :(

If you're having trouble finishing off a good round, try this.

Think of the last 6 holes as two 3 hole competitions against the course, net stroke play.
In other words 13th, 14th and 15th you play as a net comp so if you beat par net, you win the hole.
Try and beat the course par for the 3 holes. Then start again afresh and do the same on the last 3 holes.

I know a friend who does it for all 18 holes. Six 3 hole comps and tries to beat the course net for each mini comp.

It keeps you focused on the holes you're playing and if you do have a bad hole, it doesn't matter because you start a fresh new comp every 3 holes.

Hth :)

Thanks Uncle Bob,,I'll bear that in mind

maths was never my strongpoint, I think that should read 18 not 16

I apologise, please dont hound me like Liam Fox over this oversight

Take the positives. I've spent the last few days trying to rid my mind of the nasty three putts, blobbed first hole and the odd bad shot from Thursday. You know what even with them in I did bloody well and I've got to accept my shortcomings and enjoy the good shots. You're back in the game after a few weeks of not playing so well so enjoy the fact that you made a few pars and hit the ball better. I think we all tend to dwell on the negatives and forget the positives #happygolfingthoughts

I think the best advice I ever read, regarding the mental side of the game was:

"Swing easy, free your mind and allow yourself to hit a bad shot. When the mind is rid of the negative 'what if I duff it?' thoughts, it is much easier"

Allow yourself to be a bad golfer, and you'll be a better golfer. I don't think there's another sport where it's more true. Allow the worst (don't expect it) and you'll surprise yourself.
