Hi all,
Probably being a bit thick; downloaded loads of TV programmes and films in HD (i.e. takes up loads of memory) onto my my Mac, trouble is they take up loads of space on my hard-drive. How can I save to an external hard-rive, if this is at all possible?

Click drag and drop, however this may just copy the files over leaving the originals on the PC
You might need to delete these once you are sure that the backed up files are ok

Bear in mind that by moving files you aren't backing up, as your stuff will still be in one place
Ideally you will have a second hard drive to copy all your data to

Very sensible to have stuff backed up!

I have stuff saved across both my computers which in turn back up to an external hard drive automatically on the network.

I then have a separate hard drive where VERY important things are further backed up, some older important things are even burnt to a series of DVDs just in case but I no longer do that as a habit. Using this method I still have important images and files going back 8 years from when I first started using computers. So many memories, so many things I would miss!

Sounds like its time to invest in a NAS ( network attached storage) you attach this to your router/hub/switch. Decent ones will auto backup. Benefits tart to come when you have a smart tv. My tv will stream films from the NAS. Must have at least 300 films available via the TV remote!

Also like SB, I will back this up to DVD every now and again...

I have a qnap t110.. Does everything, backup, storage, media streaming, etc. all in one place. I can acquire films over the Internet and stream them to my multiple players, TV, ipad, phone, play station...

I've got 2 x Iomega LDHD-UP External hard drives I used to swap over monthly on my business systems. Once I work out how to clean and delete them I'm selling them for only £25.00 each inclusive of the mains adapter and USB.

Let me know if interested.
